Sounds Like
"A band with a taste for the low-life and a sense of irony" - "Voodoo blues" -
"Somewhere between Elvis and Cave" - "Their music moves effortlessly from a snarl to a whisper and back again" - "Swamp rock-'n'-roll" - "Voyagers on a trail of their own reality, a sepia tinge on the film of life, chancing the potholes on the road to God knows where" - "Deep neck bends" - "Ennio Morricone out drinking with some degenerate Teds in some hellhole wino alley" - "The results, as directed by Sergio Leone, are frequently nasty, often brutish but rarely less than compelling" - "Grainy and vivid vignettes of life on the downside of the tracks - with all the irony, hope and desolation"
With the original Dog Hunch as the gritty kernel at its heart GlassEye's infamy goes before them like the solitary headlights of a beaten up Cadillac on a lonely desert highway at night. Dark melodies, rich driving drum beats and a swampy rock 'n roll twanging guitar reminiscent of Link Wray, Rev Horton Heat and the Cramps... Mean moody and magnificent views from the underbelly of the beast - the Big Boss Twang of GlassEye drives from the canyon and crashes in the Blue Swamp... And by the way, old bean, these Johnnies also ROCK! This is suave as a lounge lizard and just as filthy.

Luke Lukas is back with an album full of that gleeful gloom that made us love him at first sight. His trustworthy 4-tracks and him go their separate ways so he's now presenting 12 perfectly arranged folk songs to us. Luke reveals himself as a kind soul, but like the western movies taught us, a dreadful killer always hides under every placid looking Texan.
"Leaving his strongly lo-fi sound that impressed us the first time, he treasures the recipe, packing in this new plain, delightful work a caring love for vocals, which are worthy of Neutral Milk hotel, with a touch of Chordettes feel."Daniele Dileo - Lab Magazine
Thanks a lot there, gents - by the sound of things, we'd have enjoyed yours too, but it was getting on for Mr Jeays' bed-time; he becomes unmanagable if he hasn't had his cocoa, story, and tuck-in by 10:45. Keep it gangsta, CrackTown
PS: Cute voodoo with the logo insert there - were we not a pair of ham-fisted PC cripples, we'd be all over that ourselves.
This has to be one of the best events in Brighton this year, not least because Pat Fish will be joining us. Check out www.jazzbutcher.com for more on Pat's noble career.
Also performing will be Hull’s answer to Same Difference, Cracktown; three unwise men who crawled out the swamp, GlassEye; Britain’s Got Brel finalist Phil Jeays; teller of wee tales, Brian Blaney; and, of course, new-look garage cabaret combo Asbo Derek.
"What a fucking line-up" - Roger de Courcey
It will get full and, yes, it really will start at six. Come early and stay til it all comes to a crashing halt around 11.
Afterall, it's the night before a Bank Holiday and, hey, those bankers deserve a rest.
Please enter this into your palm pilots – it’s gonna be special. love and plums Asbo Derek
