This is what happens when your first toys were an electric Casio keyboard, and a "My First Sony" with a microphone. Growing up, I remember my mom always playing her Anita Baker cassette tape in the car. Music has always been a big part of my life.
In high school, I began writing a lot of mainstream-ish pop R&B songs, influenced by Boyz II Men and R. Kelly, among others. This, after crafting hip-hop lyrics under the influence of The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, and early Jay-Z.
Finally, upon hitting college, my influences expanded greatly past pop and hip-hop music, ranging from Bob Dylan, to Jimmy Eat World, to Ben Folds, to Something Corporate.
This brief story being told, my musical biography should tell you that though I am a pop-songwriter, I aim to be much more than just that.
It's 12:45 in the morning and windy. I'm 27 today, feeling old, listening to my records, and remembering that things were diffferent a decade ago.
But tonight there is someone I can write of the way I used to write, without reservations of any kind. Tonight at the Gypsy Den, I saw my rock'n'roll past flash before my eyes. And I saw something else: I saw rock and roll future and its name is Nate.
Due to the fact that you helped me rock out an impromptu "My Love" on Monday (did you hear those dudes in the back give us the Timberlake "HO!" during your beatboxing??), I have officially promoted you to my esteemed Top 8. How long will you remain in my Top 8? Well...don't blow it. Every song you make, every breath you take...I'll be judging you.
Hi. While I'm here in So Cal I'm playing every Thursday at the Plush Cafe(www.plushcafe.com).
Please swing by, I'll play you some songs and you can say hi. I'm only
here for a while, so bring some friends. Thanks. -JVA
Hey man, just put up a new song, check it out and let me know what you think. It's called "glimpses". The end/outro is my fav part. two more weeks right? I'm down to get some more coffee house gigs set up after this and possibly even jam together if u want.
I'd be totally down with that. If so though we need to decide that soon, because it's sneaking up on us. I'm going to do some major "promoting" @ the mouse house the week prior. Costumes would be a nice addition.
