Our sound combines layered guitar textures with melody-focused songwriting. Moods range from landscapes evocative of today's instrumental indie rock to more compact song forms, finished with elements of no wave, shoegaze, indie pop, and an occasional nod to Bakersfield country. The resulting vibe has as much to do with Dinosaur Jr and Yo La Tengo as it does with groups like Band of Horses and Explosions in the Sky.
Glass Waves began when long time musical collaborators Jordan Heimburger (guitar, vocals), Micah Johnson (bass) and Nate Gregg (drums) got together to work up a collection of Jordan's bedroom demos in the summer of 2008. Since that fall, we've been performing around the St. Louis area and recording our debut album. On stage, Jordan uses a live sampler to loop and layer guitar parts, building up textures like those heard in the band's studio recordings.
