The Dang Wranglers
The Glenn Allan ensemble of chuckleheads consists in part or whole, in some variation, inclusive but not exclusive of the following persons:
The Reverend Glenn Allan, Kim Mackenzie, Molly Allan, Ray Symczyk, Luckey McClain, DC Olson, Gil Polanco, Ernest Hernandez, Jack Barber, Flaco Jimenez, Scott Abraham and more than I can remember right now. Basically anyone who shows up to play for beer, food and lame compliments. What instruments do all these people play, you wonder? Whatever they feel like at the moment. Or sometimes they simply hang out and drink beer.
But most of the time it's just Glenn and Kim.

I think I'd have to say my largest influences are my friends who keep doing IT. Playing, gigging, writing songs....year after year, decade after decade, never stopping, never "giving up", stanky bars, low (no) pay, unappreciative audiences, rejection after rejection, bullshit upon bullshit, late nights away from family, long drives home,
just because we LOVE to do IT.
Just because we HAVE to do IT!
You guys are my heroes.

Some of Glenn's musings are so profound they can literally grate cheese, and his melodies have been known to alter sandwiches, but we'll leave that to the ear of the beholder.

I grew up on the mean streets of Yaphank, Long Island, New York. (Actually it was a very small, rural, farming and fishing community.) There I played music in various forms from church folk groups to rock, country and blues bands in clubs;
I lived in Arlington, Texas for a few years as a kid starting lifelong friendships that would continually bring me back to the Lone Star State;
Daytona Beach, Florida for a few more years as a twenty-something, playing in southern rock bands;
But always landed back on Long Island, until the live music scene there pretty much dried up in the mid-eighties.
I lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for a short time as a thirty-something playing with an Elvis impersonator/oldies band before finally and permanently landing in Texas (Austin, San Antonio, Gruene, New Braunfels) where I spent many years playing with country dance hall, blues and R&B bands before quitting all that to do my own thing.
The acoustic/singer/songwriter thing.
The only reason I'm writing this at all is because some folks seem to be interested and curious. It's been a long, strange trip and I've had crazy amounts of fun and shared stages with lots of famous and infamous people along the way, but who cares? Why am I not famous? Who cares! The only thing that actually matters is what's happening right now.
Right now I'm playing with my musical partner of some years, Kim Mackenzie.
I choose to live in San Antonio (not Austin) with my wonderful family and friends.
If you'd like to get a more personal history, pull up a chair, buy me a drink and we'll talk.
Cheers!

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals,featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
