Glissen are Kate McKeon and Jimmy Behan who met while they were both studying for a Masters in Music & Media Technologies in Trinity College, Dublin. They began working together in 2007, through a shared love of combining acoustic and electronic sounds. Their work features a wide variety of sources including vocals, guitars, psaltery, autoharp, bells, ethnic percussion, accordion, found sounds, contact mics and live electronic processing. This wide palette of colours is also explored through Kate’s accompanying video work. They performed a number of shows in 2007, including at the Dublin Electronic Arts Festival, Last Tuesdays, Maximum Joy (Dublin), and Stress!! (Galway) and have since taken time out to complete their debut album.
Kate McKeon has been writing and performing occasionally for several years, and has been involved in various video/tv productions. Her video Carnival featured at Darklight 2006 and her intermedia installation Voice Box was documented at the Prague Quadrennial 2007. Her track Mainstay was featured on the Amplified Music Pollution compilation on A.M.P. Recordings (Mexico).
Jimmy Behan was featured on a number of EPs and compilations before releasing his debut album Days Are What We Live In in 2004. Most recently, he has been involved in a number of projects including a remix compilation, a second album, Relay: A Dialogue Between Sound Artists net project and in June 2008, released the In The Sudden Distance EP on Zymogen (Italy).
oh yeah, this hits a sweet spot with me. I love really pretty, melodic electro acoustic stuff like this. I just finished listening to autistici and this comes on. woo!
Glissen - What a great idea for you both to work together - Rambling is a lovely track. Look forward to seeing and hearing glissen soon. All best Kate and Jimmy. Maura
