Julia, singer and actress, and Johnny Roxxy, bassist in Angelina Diamonds, former Plastic Dolls, wrote in two months, in the autumn of 2004, a dozen songs together on a four stringed acoustic guitar. They made test recordings of these songs on a classic silver cassette player that Julia inherited from her
grandmother and grandfather. In these early sessions there were songs like “Make Me Feel”, “Welcome To This Glow” and “Running For Love” who all is played at the current date and the song “Welcome To This Glow” was to become one of Glitzy Glow’s anthems.
On a beautiful winter’s night in 2004, when Kalmar city, Sweden, was covered with snow, Julia and Roxxy met a guitarist from Sydney, Australia, named Geoff Lawrence. Geoff jammed away on his Fire burst Ibanez-guitar on a mutual friend’s party. Julia, Johnny and Geoff decided that they would start something big in the music industry. Unfortunately, some whiskeys later, Geoff was suddenly climbing outside of the building three floors up, in a heroic attempt to break into the house after we had been locked out, and when he eventually fell down hurt his foot so badly that the rehearsals would wait almost three months.
The first song that Geoff was involved in was the newly written song "Evening Faces" which Roxxy had composed at an afterparty the night before together with Hampus Tolonen, the former guitarist of Angelina Diamonds. The working title was "Backyard Babies meets new Europe". Glitzy Glow’s ballad “Dragonfly” was at this time played on the radio.
To be able to make some progress the band contacted the bassist Dennis Keller and Roxxy programmed the drums for all of their songs to make rehearsals possible. Dennis Keller left the band after a few months and gave all his heart to a career as a sing-a-song writer.
Angelina Diamonds, which in 2004 contributed to a tribute album to the American hard rock band Fire House "Dont Tribute Bad – The Songs of Firehouse” published by record label Sleaszy Rider, split up when the singer, Peter Shimes tragically passed away. Roxxy then decided to contact Daniel Jackzin who played the drums in Angelina Diamonds, and asked him to become the drummer in Glitzy Glow.
One place in the band was left to fill and Glitzy Glow called a good friend and bass player Carl Thunberg who then played in a Death Metal band in Malmö. Carl didn’t hesitate when he said yes and joined the band.
Julia and Roxxy wrote five new fresh songs "Cold Cold Heart", "Strike The Right Note “, “Now Is Never Later", "Misfits" and “Black And Sunny Day” to make a complete set list.
After several months of hard rehearsals Glitzy Glow had its first gig at Palace. After this brilliant start the band continued to headline most of their concerts throughout Sweden. The band then contacted Magnus Sedenberg (Crucified Barbara, Spawn Of Posession, Viceral Bleeding) and Maxe Axelsson (Kaj Karlsson, Brolle Jr) at Pama Studio (Hammerfall) to record "Welcome To This Glow" and "Black And Sunny Day". After this recording Glitzy Glow contributed to a greatest hits disc with the song "Black And Sunny Day", the album’s name is "Cat..z And Claw..s" where great artists like Tarja in Nightwish contributes. Both of the songs, “Welcome To This Glow” and “Black And Sunny Day” were frequently played in England, Spain, Portugal, Italy and in the United States at some selected rock clubs, FM Radio stations and on Internet radio stations.
Carl Thunberg left the band when he chose a career as a carpenter and even Geoff Lawrence left the band because of musical discrepancies. This happened in a critical moment when Glitzy Glow a few days later would be performing at the stage of Café Opera in Stockholm.
Julia then contacted a friend of Glitzy Glow who they had met at several gigs. Wingz is a rock star in every inch of his body and he quickly learned the songs and the band could do their gig in Stockholm. The performance at Café Opera was filmed and Glitzy Glow's promo video for "Black And Sunny Day" was released at www.metal-tv.com a few days later.
Glitzy Glow has been out and about giving some shows since Café Opera and will naturally continue to give the audience 100% of sparkling Swedish glow!
