Negril United Church
Negril, Jamaica
January 2009
Shared Hope International (SHI) has partnered with the Theodora Project of the United Church of Negril to build a Village of Hope for the at-risk and exploited children in the Negril area. In 2007, SHI funded construction of the Theodora Project Computer Centre which was dedicated and opened in October 2007 with new computer equipment provided by Soroptimist International of Stuart, Florida.
Vocational and remedial training through the Computer Centre at the Theodora Project will provide these students with a viable and marketable skill to ensure they do not become victims in the commercial sex industry in Jamaica or other islands.
Negrilis especially impacted by sex tourism which thrive in this tropical vacation environment. Many youth are pulled into the commercial sex markets to financially provide for themselves, and often their entire family. This has resulted in a high number of youth who cannot continue with traditional education and become more likely to remain susceptible to the commercial sex markets as adults.

Ghetto Child
by
Charley Anderson
"Vocalist has a nice even & smooth voice. The island feel really is done well also!"
"Melody is really, really good. Structure is fine and does really nice sectionalizing the song!"
Overal Comments:
Thank you so much for this track. This is a very nice riddim, with some great instrumentation. Lyrically, a nice job is done telling the story of the "Ghetto Child", and it flows together very good.
Vocally its a nice performance with the vocalist keeping his voice within range and keeping time with the beat nicely.
This type of track could definitely work well as an album track or on a nice compilation.
Something that people coud vibe out to yet, hopefully relate to back in the islands.
Musically its a very well put together song. Keep making this good music and sending your message to the people.
Thanks again for letting me do this critique for you. It was a really nice listen.
I hope to hear more from you in the future.

Charley Anderson
Prodigal Son Flies 9,000 Miles to Return for
St Patrick's Day
Dublin, Ireland
March 17, 2009
Charley Anderson of the 2-Tone Ska Band, The Selecter, must have set a world record in his attempt to get back to his spiritual home of Coventry to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with traditional Irish musicians where he performed the song “The Fields of Athenry” (as he did for Nelson Mandela when invited by Irish Government on Nelson Mandela Day in Dublin to a packed Bar Eden in Hill Street, Coventry).
Charley flew from Bogota, Colombia to Dublin, Ireland, then onto Birmingham, England and was then driven to Coventry to meet the Lady Mayoress Caron Matchett and play his Pete St. John smash hit “The Fields of Athenry” with local Coventry Irish Society Musicians.

Music Hate Racism
@ Methodist Central Hall (U.K.)
April 4, 2009
Whilst in the UK, Charley teamed up with Love Music Hate Racism and Compassion UK to produce an event to raise the profile of people less fortunate. A group of musicians from all over the world gathered to perform at his one-night only Gig in Coventry on Saturday April 4th, to help people the only way he knows how…through music.
Charley commented "I have been very fortunate and blessed in my life to work with some of the greatest musicians in the world. Our latest initiative, Zero Time Project, with the new single “Ghetto Child”, features one of the grandfathers of the Saxophone, Panama's own Carlos Garnett.”
Charley also brought with him from Latin America Isabel Escobar, “Miss Muffin”, from the Colombian Caribbean island of Providencia, a young talent fast on her way to being the next Shakira or Rihanna.

On stage with Charley appeared some of his oldest friends -- the Original Rude Boy himself, Neville Staple from The SPECIALS and for the first time in 28 years, four of the original Selecter members appeared on stage together; Aitch, Gaps & Noel Davies joined Charley blazing the stage with music.
The evening was a very SELECT SPECIAL one, with some of the greatest musicians in ska and reggae history collaborating on songs from the Selecter, Bob Marley, and other greats, and with Charley singing “The Fields of Athenry” and his new smash single “Ghetto Child”.

The Coventry Observer
April 9, 2009
Five yougsters who featured in an iconic photo with The Selecter bass player Charley Anderson were reunited with the musical legend at the weekend.
The picture, taken by city photographer Toni Tye in 1979 was featured in The Observer two weeks ago, and saw a crowd of young fans queueing up for Charley to sign his autograph after a gig.
Charley returned to the city on Saturday for a one-off gig at the Methodist Central Hall, where he once again met with Tracy Morgan, Craig Morgan, Marie Evans, Sue Evans, Dean Checkly and Deb Mottram for a reunion photocall.
The event promoter said: "After the original gig at Tifffany's in Coventry, the children had to wait 30 minutes to get Charley's autograph, and they waited another 30 years to meet him again but it was all worthwhile!
"When the picture went in The Observer, Tracy contacted us and she knew where several of the others were, then we tracked down Deb and right at the last minute we found Dean on a social networking site - he lives in Slough now but said he wouldn't miss this for the world and came straight up."

with Pete Chambers featuring an article on
Charley Anderson
As the mighty Specials get one step close to their reunion tour and that Special date at the Ricoh on May 15, 2-Tone fever continues to dominate the local music scene.
On April 4, 2009, four of the original Selecter made a bit of history and played a blazing set at a Love Music, Hate Racism gig in Coventry's Central Hall. This was the first time they had graced a stage together for 28 years! Also in attendance was the Original Rude Boy himself, Neville Staple. Charley Anderson was hosting the show to promote his Ghetto Child project. He was later joined on stage by former bandmates Noel Davies, Aitch and Gaps.
They turned the clock back some 30 years as they took us on a nostalgia trip with the songs James Bond, Danger, The Selecter and Too Much Pressure. It all sounded so good to be just a one-off, we now hope the reunion rumours are right, and pretty soon we shall see these guys on tour once again.
