Title: ONCE UPON A TIME………….
Warmest Greetings to all my new Friends,
Isn’t it amazing that when you have to write about yourself, there is an instant memory and writer’s block that goes ‘thud’?
I’ve sat in front of the LT and attempted this exposé several times over.
It’s not that I think my life is not worthy of mention, it’s really about what to include and what to leave out.
After all, this is rather a pubic platform.
Okay, on with it.
Once upon a time, a little girl was born in a city in Europe.
Political circumstances at that time dictated this little girl’s destiny and soon, she took up more temporary roots in another city in Europe.
For the first time, this little girl had stability. She went to school there and on outings with classmates.
Although poor, when a child has food, fun and camaraderie, what does she know of other external circumstances?
Life went on in this manner for some time, when she boarded a ship – destination Australia.
Can you imagine this little girl’s adventure?
Through the Suez Canal, stopping at places with bazaars, seeing people in exotic clothing, yelling in languages foreign to her, camels walking the streets, people pushing and shoving, so colourful; it was a story-book world.
She had had to get used to a new language on the ship, as all the crew only spoke Italian, but they were lovely; they loved children.
She then sailed on to other wonderous places such as Ceylon (Sri Lanka today).
There she remembers going into temples and walking through lush forests, and seeing big elephants.
Then, one morning, everyone was so excited on board the ship.
“We’re here, we’re here, we’ve arrived; it’s Australia!” people were yelling in a multitude of different languages.
The ship had docked in Fremantle, before going on to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and then by train to her destination.
Well, the little girl couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. People again spoke a language she couldn’t understand, men were yelling orders in that language, everyone was pushing and shoving and she kept getting bumped by people and their luggage.
Once back in Brisbane, life took on the ‘normal’ life of an immigrant with all the acclimatization and fitting in that is part of the course.
From then, a life in summary:
• Rebellious youth (I could never see the point of doing something simply because I was told to when it seemed idiotic and futile – led to lots of school detentions, canings, etc)
• Bored at school
• Lots of friends and parties, parties, parties
• Once leaving school, loved studying, learning – passionately
• Married
• Love of my life – my daughter, best friend, soul mate
• Divorced
• Started on a quest – there has to be more to life than the one I was leading
• Boom! – universe opens the flood gates of knowledge and opportunities
• Many university degrees, post grad, other certificates followed
• Much study of esoteric and spiritual insights
• Travel, travel, travel, travel
• Present – much-wiser, very content, love what I do, love life, content yet still very inquisitive
• Motto for 2008: I'm Focused and Self-Motivated Today for my Dream Tomorrow - are You?
To be continued……………………….( when I’m 120)
