and please visit our blog, The Jinglesmithy, for all news regarding Glorious Monster, Man is Doomed, and our day jobs as Jinglesmiths.
"Glorious Monster’s day gig also shines through in the obviously cinematic bent and scope of their musical work. It’s not a coincidence that the album’s strongest track is titled “In the Movies” and kicks off with the sound of an old-school film projector starting up. In an era where most bands can be fully experienced by grabbing mp3s off of a download service, Glorious Monster are that rare tech savvy band that still believes in the power of the album, aiming to create a world of sound and images that’s all encompassing....“In the Movies” shimmering guitar fills and simple but effective recurrent xylophone figure, the zonked-orchestral-keyboard-ballad-set-to-overdriven-beats “Photograph”—are some of the most innovative and lush pop you’ll likely hear in or outside of Minnesota this year. Adventures on Earth is certainly an auspicious debut from a group intensely committed to their craft" -- Rob van Alstyne, Reveille Magazine
"The music is a perfect soundtrack to the creature's lonely ramblings—it's dreamy, yearning, and atmospheric. The vocals are story-hour quiet and breathy, blended together like notes in a chord. Synthesized tones echo in space, occasionally refracting a bit of light before they dissolve." -- Sarah Askari, Citypages
Glorious Monster is the art-pop project created by the composition/production duo The Skeptics (Brian Casey and Danny Burke) and visual artist Anton Friant. After the release of their debut album Adventures on Earth and its follow up the In The Movies Remix ep in 2007 Monster has spent much of the past year in the studio creating their new band the Neo-Disco-Electro-Funk band, Man is Doomed. Another full length Glorious Monster album is currently in the early stages of development.
Brian, Danny, and Anton all met while students at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2001. As the composition/production duo The Skeptics, Brian and Danny have written award winning music for a variety of projects ranging from TV, film and advertisements to their own band projects as Glorious Monster and Man is Doomed. Working with In The Groove Music, a Minneapolis-based commercial music house, The Skeptics have worked on dozens of projects for companies such as BMW, Coca Cola, Sony Picture Classics, MTV and the Discovery Networks.
The spring of 2009 will see the dawn of Man is Doomed, The Skeptics Neo-Disco Electro-Funk band, and its debut album Escape to Europa which is due to be released March 30th. A new full length Glorious Monster album is also slowly but surely being crafted behind the scenes, but no release date has been set as The Skeptics will spend most of 2009 focused on the release of Man is Doomed and increasing the power/stamina of their pelvic thrusts.
Rock show Friday - come grab an advanced copy of the new disc from my fuzzgrunge noisepop band The Sextons. And as always, bands, let me know how I can help out with your next tasty record!
I was going to go camping over the weekend, but this is definitely NOT camping weather. So me and some friends went to check out Dueling Pianos. Those guys are amazing - they can play just about any song that's been on the radio between 1950 and 2005.
Speaking of music, I wanted to let you know about a show we have @ Station 4 on Friday, October 16th. We are debuting a project called Sonic Transformations. It is a series of audio-visual performance pieces. The first one is called "AN OBJECT TO CRAVE". It features live music and visuals based on a short story about life, love, loss, fantasy, obsession and death.
Another group of mine, The Magnetrons, which plays an exciting and innovative Livetronica set (i.e. STS9, Disco Biscuits, The Histronic) will also be playing. The night will be full of creative, interesting, high-energy music, good drinks and good times.

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:
