Glowb has increasingly gained the reputation as one of the most electrifying live shows to see in this region. With the large and diverse group of people Glowb has drawn to their shows they always instill a sense of community where they perform. The common denominator is the thirst for spirited, creative, and above all, original music.
Glowb did not start playing to sellout bars and regional festivals in the beginning. The road has been a long, hard and gradual climb. Perseverance is the main key to success, the band has always put 110% into everything they write, perform and rehearse.
In 1998 Corey Planck (guitar/vocals) moved back to Michigan from Hollywood, Ca. after completing a vocal training course at the famed Musicians Institute. It was back home where Corey started the idea for Glowb with the help of a local poet and a bass player, Christopher Kotarski and Mathew Douglas, respectively. The three ran an open-mic style night of music and poetry weekly for a year at Timothy's Pub in downtown Lapeer, Mi.
It was through these open jam sessions the band Glowb began to take shape. In the infancy there was Corey Planck, Mathew Douglas and then Christopher Teeple (drums), Eric Burris (percussion/vocals), Cori Bago (saxophone/vocals). Shortly after a few gigs with this group the band subtracted the percussion and added a very key member to Glowb, LB Deverell (guitar/mandolin/vocals) who has since left the band to spend more time with his family.
This incarnation of the band weathered through some years and matured into what was recognized as the best band in the Flint area by the Greater Flint Arts Council in a talent search sponsored by Comcast Cable for the Flint City's Fourth of July Festival (2004). The band made a lot of great friends along their travels. John Sinclair (poet/cultural icon/manager of MC5) is one such individual that Glowb has had the privilege to play with on numerous occasions, festivals and otherwise. Glowb has gained the notoriety as John's band when he plays in this region of the country.
Mathew Douglas and Cori Bago took on a business venture outside of the band and soon realized they could no longer put in 110%. After a band meeting and a few tears we all came to terms with what we had to do, and for the rest of Glowb that was play music.
As before mentioned, through the years of playing throughout the region the band has met some of the most wonderful musicians and people. One of those people we met through the band Electric Magi, Woody Rose (keyboards/vocals). Woody caught our ears by singing us home with his soulful voice and tasteful keyboard work. The band is made solid and complete with the addition of David Dube (bass). Dave has a degree in music and is currently a guitar teacher, as well as an engineer.
With the addition of a few on-stage members we also have added one to the off-stage crew, Erik Sovey is currently our sound engineer/archivist. Christopher Kotarski has held down the manager role of the band since their inception. With a cast full of very noteworthy musicians and citizens, Glowb brings to the stage a very professional, unique, and welcomed sound to each room and theater they perform in.
