In 1967 the Who concluded their album “The Who Sell Out” with the song Glow Girl. These were some of the lines to that precise tune:
Your out-of-tune piano, sentimental photographs,
A million little memories, a million little laughs.
In 2003-2004 Jonathan Clancy decided to start a boy’s trip through his moments of sadness and joy. A trip to the core of a naïf metropolis where souls can still be saved. Armed just with a piano, guitar, trumpet and his voice, many small improvised songs came to life, recorded on old cassettes and mini discs. The sounds of the external world entered the small room while the recordings were taking place (ambulances, cars, phones). Jonathan found in Stefano Pilia the perfect match. The second “kid” that could shine light on a decaying metropolis. Both started on a trip together: the Glow Kids.
Stefano added his musical wonder touch with lush guitar atmospheres, found-object percussion, double bass, voice-layering and precise mixing. The record was finished in 2005.
“Our Trip To Metropolis” is the duo’s first introduction to the world.
10 Songs that mix atmospheric soundscapes and rich vocal harmonies in an unconventional song-writing form that happens in some way to maintain a concise pop structure. Scattered rhythmic structures and beautiful guitars lock in with improvised pianos and child like voices. Call it free folk, avant-pop, electronic suffering or childish noises. BIOGRAPHY
Glow Kids are Jonathan and Stefano. The two “kids” reside in the small city of Bologna, Italy.
- Jonathan Clancy is the singer and guitarist for the acclaimed Italian indie rock band Settlefish. With this band he has put out two albums for the American label Deep Elm (Appleseed Cast, Desert City Soundtrack) and Italian label Unhip Records (Califone, Melt-Banana, Fantomas, To Rococo Rot, Tarwater). He has toured Europe three times and North America twice playing over 200 shows. The band’s records have been produced by Brian Deck known for his work with Modest Mouse and Iron & Wine. In the past he has also been a member of various indie post-punk bands such as Plan For A Treacle Io and The Suicide Club. Today he also has a new band called A Classic Education.
- Stefano Pilia has been called the “Italian boy wonder” of avant-garde. He has a distinct solo career performing his beautiful guitar droning compositions and has put out material on labels such as Last Visible Dog, Time-Lag and Sedimental, leaders of the new free folk renaissance. He is a member and co-founder of the Avant group 3/4HadBeenEliminated with material released on Scandinavian label Hapna (Grubbs, Connors, Sinistri) and Italian label Bowindo. Their albums have been acclaimed on magazines like The Wire and Blow Up. He also works on sound installations and music for video and films. In the past he has also been a member and toured with Italian indie rock band Settlefish and indie folk band Franklin Delano.

Si rende noto, inoltre, che su richiesta degli altri Direttori Artistici, per TUTTE LE ALTRE REGIONI d’Italia la data ultima di iscrizione al Festival Pub Italia 2009 è stata PROROGATA al 30 novembre 2008.
Per la SARDEGNA sarà selezionata direttamente dall'Organizzazione del Festival la Band ammessa alla finale Nazionale fra le richieste pervenute e questo almeno per quest'anno.
