Imagine if RICHARD BACH had been a composer and not written "JONATHAN LIVINGSTON SEAGULL"...
... and what if ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPERY had played the piano and not written "THE LITTLE PRINCE"?
Start there, then add the influence of popular TV & Film tunes, Philosophy and Religion, Themes of Cultural integration and unification, a mix of genres from Classical to Electronica and pour in a little inspiration from the beautiful New Zealand landscape.
...then you have the music of Glyn MacLean.
At the age of eight years old Glyn decided to become a completely original composer. Against all odds he thought he would achieve this by teaching himself.
While a number of people in those early years considered Glyn to be (and rightfully so) both pretentious and delusional, his chief attribute “perseverance” has seen the development of a truly unique talent in New Zealand composition.
At 39 years of age he now has remarkably 9 songs and tunes licensed in Hollywood. His music competes with world class names such as James Blunt and David Gray. He is one of only three NZ composers/companies to have a relationship with Barry Coffing and Music Supervisor in Hollywood.
Glyn’s tune THE RAIN CLOUD AND THE SUNSHINE recently peaked at number 2 position on New Zealand’s oldest and most established digital chart at www.amplifier.co.nz and has been number one in both the ADULT CONTEMPORARY and JAZZ (amplifier) charts in New Zealand. He is about to sign a digital distribution that will, for the first time, make his music available on mainstream charts and for digital download.
However, due to the influence of his wife, 7 times platinum selling singer “YULIA”, it occurred to Glyn that the real story of his music rests in the values it took to persevere through adversity, overcoming disadvantages of every kind. Yulia is supporting Glyn to promote his music from this new perspective.
From 2008 forward Glyn aims to present his music as "Sophisticated music that transports 40+ adult contemporary audiences someplace else; to a moment in which one begins to hope and believe one could be or do absolutely anything." He is comparing his music with the literary works of RICHARD BACH (Jonathan Livingston Seagul) or ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPERY (The Little Prince) and presenting it as “beautiful inspirational and motivational music.”
His commercially creative output has a specialist focus on TV & FILM Soundtracks, songs and stings, SOUNDTRACKS for documentaries and also writing and co-writing as a SONGWRITER for headline and emerging artists. Glyn's 5 year goal in New Zealand is to win a Screen Directors Guild Award for Best Film Soundtrack and he is seeking tv & film projects that align with this vision.
Some of Glyn's credits include:
- 9 songs/tunes licenced in Hollywood www.musicsupervisor.com
- Most notably, music competed with David Gray & James Blunt TV Series Las Vegas.
- Composer for Royal New Zealand Returned Services Association
- 2 x Hot Pick winner in Pacific Songwriting Competition (once with distinction)
- 2006 Top 10 performance award (Music Wairarapa, NZ)
- 2006 Male Artist of Year, Wairarapa Country Music Club
- Open act during NZ's international Jazz festival at Hummingbird. (Venue owner called Glyn's self taught piano playing "prodigious".)
