Movies, screenwriting, television, reading, various sports (football, softball, baseball, v-ball, even tennis although I'm not very good at it), and hanging with friends.
Music
I admit it - I'm a metal head at heart. Dream Theater, Vanden Plas, Judas Priest, Dio, Dokken, Doug Aldrich, The New Black, Symphony X, Anberlin, Primal Fear, Maximum the Hormone, anything Rainbow and Black Sabbath related - I'd say I'm more into hard rock/heavy metal and progressive metal more than anything else. Oh, and anything Yoko Kanno does (if you don't know her, just ask and I'll explain). I also dig some blues and some ambient stuff.
Movies
Favorites include: They Live, Die Hard, Halloween, The Searchers, Ghostbusters, Hard Target, Duel, Shawshank Redemption, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Lord of Illusions, the Spider-man movies - you know, guy stuff.
Television
Anything Joss Whedon-related (Buffy, Angel, and the staff writers like David Fury and Tim Minear), Lost, The Simpsons, King of the Hill, The Office (American version), The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Prison Break, Law & Order (repeats of the original, SVU after Ice T joined the cast), Supernatural, Cowboy Bebop, FullMetal Alchemist, etc.
Books
I'm a big fan of graphic novels (Dark Knight Returns, Kingdom Come, etc.). Mick Foley really is good - I've flown through both of his books in record time, and he's as good a writer as he is a wrestler. Also, I know it's not a book, but Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-men is awesome.
Heroes
John Wayne. John Carpenter. Abe Lincoln. FDR. Joss Whedon. Bill Clinton. Wes Clark. David Letterman. Homer Simpson.
About me: I'm a screenwriter and filmmaker always on the lookout for my next project. Currently I'm in the process of producing my script "Ballad of Broken Angels" with the Ford Film Company. Masiela Lusha (The George Lopez Show, Blood: The Last Vampire), "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Mick Foley, Claudia Christian, and Suzi Lorraine are all attached.
The international action script I wrote for VPR Studios, "Serbian Scars,"with Michael Madsen, Mark Dacascos, and Claudia Christian starring is in theaters now.
My most recent rewrite, the urban thriller "Clever Deception" (from Johnny D. Boyd's original script), is currently in pre-production. Robert Townsend was attached to direct and Michael J. Pagan was set to star.
I also wrote, produced, and directed my own microbudget independent film, a thriller entitled "When Heaven Comes Down" featuring Robert Z'Dar, Jeff Dylan Graham, and Syn DeVil. It's available at Best Buy and on amazon.com as a part of the horror compilation "Savage Sickos" from Brain Damage Films and Pendulum Pictures (the trailer is below via YouTube). A short film I did, "The Road To," has also played several festivals and my screenplays "Sk8r 666" and "Shadows of Life" have won various screenwriting awards. My writing resume can be found at www.garymlumpp.blogspot.com.
If you're a producer looking to hire a screenwriter, or you're interested in knowing more about my current projects, please contact me at gmlumpp@gmail.com. *****
Who I'd like to meet: I'd like to meet fellow filmmakers who are serious about their craft, but also know how to have fun while getting the job done.
