IF YOU ARE TRANSGENDER (OR OTHERWISE FALL UNDER THE TRANS-UMBRELLA) AND HAVE CHILDREN (OR ARE IN A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH CHILDREN) PLEASE JOIN THIS NEW TRANS-FAMILY GROUP!!
This (Trans-Umbrella) group is intended to provide an area for open discussion and sharing resources regarding trans-gender, gender-fluid, intersex, and all non-gender-binary families, parents, and significant others...
Please feel free to invite others, link resources, and discuss whatever you like (so long as it is in a respectful manner). Especially topics regarding transitioning (or otherwise living outside the gender-binary) and how it affects your children (or the children of friends or relatives), having children who wish to transition (or who are expressing some kind of gender fluidity or disphoria), how to handle questions, your experiences with discrimination, dealing with doctors, legal issues, etc and so forth...
There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info out there about raising children in a non-gender-binary fashion... I would like to see that change...
Pittsburgh photographer Ebba Schmid is currently working on a photography project focused on transgender individuals at various stages of transition. Particularly FTM's, though MTF's and other non-gender-binary type peoples (genderfluid, genderqueer, intersex, etc) are welcome to participate. The exhibit is planned to open in some time 2010, so over the next 2 years Ebba will be working diligently to expand her gallery.
She is tentatively planning a visit to the Metro-Detroit area over a weekend in July or August. A definite date will be given at a later time. Once there is general idea of the number of likely participants etc.
Please view the photo project web site, and myspace page, or email Ebba (links below) for more info.
