I graduated from collect with a MS in physics, a strong emphasis in math and a secondary teaching certificate. I taught high school for a few years and found that this was not what I had expected.

So I went back to college and pursued a masters degree in computer science. Mr. Spock from Star Trek was having an influence. While working to help grad students do statistical analysis of their research data I find a job at our local electric utility.

I was employed by our local utility for 26 years. I've worked in the professional IT arena all of those 26 years.

During that time I've been involved with a number of interesting projects including distributing the first personal computers within the company.

Online Business

On my own time I also became familiar with the Internet and did some marketing on the Net. I was earning enough extra money to accept an early retirement offer when our company purchased another local utility.

The major products I initially marketed included Net Detective, credit products (including credit cards, consolidation loans, etc.), and telecommunication products (including cell phones, long distance, T1 lines, etc.)

But, while I was somewhat successful in these efforts, the major money the gurus made eluded me. There was something I was not doing that the gurus did.

I Failed By Being Successful

I was mainly promoting a couple of affiliate programs. They were Net Detective ( see http://www.net-detective-download.us/ ) and Cognigen (see http://cheap-long-distance.us/ ).

I created about 6 or 7 sites for each program. I was diligent about driving traffic to these sites.

I optimized each page for specific keywords that described what I was selling on that page. I bought several software packages that would help in optimizing my keyword density, the placement of keywords, and so on.

I created my own reciprocal links script to help get and maintain reciprocal links. I got hundreds of inbound links to each site. And I controlled the words in the link text that helped search engines know what that site was about.

These two activities helped me get top ranking on search engines. Sometimes my sites were #1 and #2 on Google for important keywords.

I was making $5000, $6000, sometimes $7000 a month and more marketing these affiliate programs.

And, that's why I failed. -- I was succeeding.

I was succeeding at doing the wrong things.

I was driving traffic to my sites--yes, that's true.

But, they were ONE TIME visitors who either bought or left.

The gurus say that even an interested visitor to you site has only a 3% chance of buying once they get to your site.

It takes 7 to 10 exposures to your message for many people to take out their credit card and make a purchase.

Do you see the problem?

You have to put your message before people a number of times before they will buy from you. And, that's exactly what I failed to do.

I struggled for several years to build an income stream that could replace my former utility income. But, as hard as I struggled, the more elusive the goal became.

But Now ...

I realize that I wasted a lot of time and effort trying to find people who would buy a specific product on their first and only visit to my site. This was wrong ... Wrong ... WRONG!

Second Problem: One Time Purchases

How much time are you spending getting people to make a purchase? A single purchase for which you receive a commission.

Probably too much time.

Your time could better be spent getting fewer people to build you a residual income. This is an income that keeps coming in--month after month.

Are You Like Me?

I'll bet many of you are doing the same thing.

I see Myspace pages that are ads for a particular product or program. I see spammy comments in various groups that try to get me to buy a product or join a certain group. You probably get a tons of Myspace bulletins that have the same spammy stuff that I get.

So, now I'm trying to help others become real "Internet Marketers", so that they promote using an autoresponder and build a residual income.

WOW! What a thought!

It's a hundred times better than trying to get someone to buy a single product on their first visit to our site.
