Welcome to the Godfather of Gore's official MySpace home!
The incredibly popular, violent horror films of recent decades, such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street, owe much of their existence to the undisputed Godfather of Gore -- Herschell Gordon Lewis. In 1963, with his monumental splatter movie Blood Feast, Lewis single-handedly changed the face of horror cinema forever.
"Herschell Gordon Lewis is the man who put red meat into the American cinematic diet. Ultimately, Herschell made Quentin Tarantino possible." -- Joe Bob Briggs
As well as virtually inventing the gore generation, Lewis also produced a number of "exploitation" movies sampling a full gamut of subjects from wife-swapping and ESP to rock 'n' roll and LSD. (Excerpted from Christopher Wayne Curry's A Taste of Blood: The Films of Herschell Gordon Lewis)
Hello Herschell, I have been a fan since I first rented one of your films in 1984. We met in Strongsville Ohio 6 years ago or so. I noticed your name in the credits of the latest Michael Moore film, was wondering why. Cheers Herschell.
