Godfrey Birtill was born in Chorley, Lancashire, England UK. His family has Moravian roots dating back to the early 1700’s including Moravian hymn writer James Montgomery (Angels from the realms of glory) being one of his ancestors.
He is married to Gill, has 4 children and lives in Lincoln UK
It has been said that Godfrey’s unique ’minstrel anointing’, blending worship and intercession, is in part an inheritance from his Moravian roots. In the Moravians church history is the ’100 year prayer meeting’ and they were also a major influence to the Wesleys.
Many of his songs like, Just one touch from the King’ ’Outrageous Grace’, and ’When I look at the blood’, have a prophetic edge to them and have been picked up internationally.
Much of his travelling is connected to ’grass roots’ city prayer gatherings across the denominations. He often writes songs on location that are connected to the city, seeking to release the cities indigenous song and lament. He’s led worship and done ’Song and Intercession’ workshops across the UK, South Africa, Europe and America, including song workshops on a reservation with Navajo Indians. He also leads worship with the team at ’Grapevine International Celebration’ where 10,000+ people gather at Lincolnshire showground each year.
Godfrey has released 11 live CDs of his songs and a studio CD (recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, USA) is also available.

Hi Godfrey we had am amazing day last week, we took our friend Steve to Betel for an open day as he is an alcoholic whose recently become a Christian. We wanted to show him what its like. We took them some fresh meat as a gift and it was great to hear their testimonies.Nathan mentioned that you were playing at Betel church and so we thought we would love to go along. Not knowing where to go this woman told us to follow her in the car to Birmingham city centre and unbeknown to her she took us to Betel church. We bought Steve a small bottle of cider as he had the DT's and spent the afternoon in the park although it seemed a bit dodgy because there was a Police crime scene with a tent etc and gangs of youths milling around .
Anyway some four hours later we were really enjoying your music and God was very present. But we were in awe to think that all those broken lives had been touched by God and being restored. We said to Steve that if God is doing this for all these people he can do thre same for him.Since becoming a Christian he no longer talks about suicide and brings his friends to church and although he still is an alcoholic the Lord is really working in his life. LOL Elaine & Nigel PS Thanks for a lovely evening and leading us in battle
