Books
I enjoy reading about slavery and our ancestors who were affected by it. I still read Frederick Douglass's narrative from time to time. Also, check out Mary L. Dudziak's "Cold War Civil Rights." Also, I am the author of my first book, "Playing Your Game."
Heroes
My hero is Michael Jackson. Despite the changes that he had to endure during his life and the psychological effects that resulted, Michael Jackson was still a kind humanitarian. Global issues were of great concern to him.........he gave from his heart......
I will try to be a lil more like him such that my good deeds will be recognized as favorable and not for publicity reasons.....Michael did his work from the heart.

WHO AM I?
Michelle L. Smith was born and raised by her mother and father in the northwest section of Washington, D.C. She is the offspring of a multiracial background of African, Polish, French and Cherokee Indian ancestries. She is a graduate with honors from Howard University. Her Bachelor’s degree was earned in the study of Communications, specializing in radio production. Michelle worked as an on-air talent at Glasshouse Radio on the campus of Howard University for three years. Her format, which started out as the "all news" hour, quickly became an entertainment segment in which she interviewed local indie artists as well as national recording artists. In addition, Michelle has just completed the requirements to obtain her Master’s degree in U.S. History at Howard University. As a compassionate and loving woman, her academic and research interests are studying slavery of African Americans in the U.S. and the effects of it.
Working as a medical professional for the past several years of her life, Michelle decided that she wanted a career change in an effort to use her vocal talents to make changes within the white and black communities in the United States and possibly abroad. She has produced her first album called, “Have You Seen Gogo,” which was released in 2008 (itunes, cdbaby.com & digstation.com). In addition, she is the author of her first book released in 2003 called, Playing Your Game. It is a non-fiction work that talks about the struggles of a marriage relationship and the effects this had on a good strong wholesome woman, herself.
Currently, Michelle utilizes Pro Tools LE 7.0 to produce broadcast quality commercials, drops, PSA’s and docudramas for her clients in which they have her work aired on local radio stations. She also does production work such as mixing and pre-mastering songs for indie artists. Michelle has a great love for music and currently owns an extensive collection of work from the Harlem Renaissance era, jazz from the 1950’s and 1960’s, classic R&B, hip/hop, reggae, pop, gogo and funk from the 1970’s and 1980’s, and more music from the 1990’s to the present time. In addition, Michelle is actively involved in the preservation of gogo music, a genre which originated in Washington, D.C.
Michelle is dedicated to her family and to helping others reach their goals. She also takes pride in any work that she does while at the same time being an independent, resourceful, creative, hard working individual who leaves a positive long lasting impression on others. She is also a strong leader and excellent writer and believes in talking about the realities of social problems while others try to hide them. Michelle is working on academic research that is top secret for now and will share her discoveries when it is time for her to do so.
