Going for the One is a Yes tribute band based in Western New York. This exciting ensemble brings together five superb musicians who each have a rich history in performing progressive rock. Lead singer Jimmy Warlick (The Smooth Talkers, Driven to Tears, Heroes for Ghosts) possesses the high range necessary for Yes music and delivers the vocals with skill and confidence. The rest of the band is a combination of virtuoso players: John Covach on guitars (The Smooth Talkers, The Waiting Room, Heroes for Ghosts); Chris Meeker on bass (The Waiting Room, Mind Sky); Rich DellaPietra on keyboards (The Waiting Room); and Mario Encina on drums (The Waiting Room, Mesh). Everybody in the band sings, allowing the group to accurately reproduce not only the demanding and powerful instrumental passages, but also the lush vocal harmonies found on the studio albums.
Going for the One is currently rehearsing and will debut in fall 2009. The current set list features almost all of The Yes Album, Fragile, and Close to the Edge, plus the full-length version of "America." In the coming months, the band will launch an official web page and post audio and video clips. Watch this page for announcements!
