Sounds Like
Pitched somewhere between the chilly post-rock chamber music of Rachel's and the joyful faux-Gypsy romps of A Hawk and a Hacksaw, the debut album by
instrumental quartet Gojogo is an uncategorizable delight. The quirky
combination of violin, standup bass, tabla, and electronic samples sounds
like the work of a bunch of friends with wide-ranging tastes bringing their
instruments together just to see what happens, but there's an impressive
amount of structure within the songs themselves. As if to showcase a
different member per song, All Is Fair floats through minimalist strings
("Sounds in the Fields," "Dusk"), vaguely Eastern European folk ("Tezeta,"
the driving, hypnotic "All Is Fair in Love and War"), jazzy solo showcases,
and wild group improv. It all fits together beautifully somehow. ~ Stewart

Not that I haven't said this before A MILLION TIMES but - basically y'all are bad ass! Thanks for putting your beauty into the world! Even though I missed the show Thursday - I've been playing Gojogo in dance class all week long! xo

the madman’s under red lights again slinging stuffed animal grenades renders the adults afraid, but not the children; the wild ones walking hand-in-hand wide-eyed into the lair of the dragon
who reclines under a red sign and reflects back to us an image of our demise in a gilt mirror that old king louis would have thought garishly ornate
but wait... the moon is waxing filigree through the live oak trees and iron wrought by the blood and sweat of our fatalistic slavery to passion
we would walk open-eyed into the gaping maw of death for one dance of devil-may-care rabelaisian synchronicity
and ratty would be there in his top hat and tails waving us recklessly through the dragon door with beelzebub licking his ear-lobe
