InfluencesMoments of inspiration:

Have I The Right by The Honeycombs! I don't care how good you are at writing pop songs, you're not going to top that!

TAD - Bohemoth - you will fall, you're falling down!

The Dream Syndicate - The Days Of Wine and Roses album

Herman's Hermits - No Milk Today

The Clash.......Rudie Can't Fail! You know, even Combat Rock is starting to sound pretty good. Straight To Hell is brilliant.

The songs of Mr. David Lewis Gedge - The Wedding Present, Cinerama etc.

Mark E. Smith and the Fall. The Classical!

The driving organ of Snapper. No more buddy buddy, no more messing around!

Cat Stevens - Mathew and Son. The files in your head, you take them to bed, your work is never through.

Hüsker Dü. Grant Hart. Bob Mould. Sugar. Candy Apple Grey! Flip You Wig! New Day Rising! etc. etc. etc.

Otis Redding.

Union City Blue by Blondie.

Motown and Stax recordings from the 60's.

Sneaky Feelings' Send You album, even if they don't like how it sounds.

Belle & Sebastian's earlier records.

Beatles - Rain.

Rolling Stones - Exile On Mainstreet and prior to.

Hearing The Pixies Doolittle for the first time. Then discovering Surfa Rosa.

Muddy Waters - Rolling Stone period.

Polly Jean Harvey at her messed up/ pissed off best.

Echo And The Bunnymen - Heaven Up Here and Porcupine are just cool as hell to listen to closely on the headphones.

Talking Heads - Remain In Light. Has anyone listened to the lyrics of Listening Wind lately?

Any good 5 day cricket test match.

Peter Tosh period Wailers

Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra - Some Velvet Morning etc.

The Sex Pistols. Of course.

Simple Minds - Someone Somewhere In Summer time etc.

Split Enz / The Finn boys etc. - Oh come on, you can't grow up in New Zealand in the 70's and 80's and not be influenced by them in some way.

Manchester United Football Club.

Lulu's version of The Boat That I Row (Neil Diamond song)

George Best with the ball on the end of his foot.

The Pretenders first couple of records. Talk of the Town. Precious. Sobbing etc.

Richard Hadlee. If our slips could only have caught the ball he would have owned every fast bolwing record in the books.

Guided By Voices at their messy and melodic best.

The Velvet Underground. Everything! From Jesus to Sister Ray. Well, except that crap stuff after the main members had left.

Neil Diamond's use of mournful brass.

Shihad's sense of power.

R.E.M.'s use of guitars, piano and Michael Stipe's voice on the first few albums.

60's pop use of strings.

Beatles use of George Martin (or vice versa depending on your point of view).

Cattle and Cane by the Go-Betweens. And everything else. etc. Grant McClennan RIP.

Jean-Paul Sartre Experience. Garry Sullivan's drumming. And those lovely songs!

Run To Me, Massachusetts etc. by the Bee Gees. Their '60's folk pop phase.

Lady Friend by the Byrds.

Roy Orbison's voice.

Roxy Music

T-Rex

The Replacements - Tim

My Bloody Valentine. More noise? Yes please.

Joed Out by the Verlaines.

See My Friends by the Kinks.

Boodle Boodle Boodle E.P. by the Clean. Oh, and Bigmouth from the oddities tape. Alright, all their other stuff, too. Getting Older.

Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys.

Emmylou Harris singing Boulder to Birmingham. Emmylou Harris singing anything, actually.

Sun Records. Jerry Lee Lewis. Carl Perkins. Elivs.....

Toots And The Maytals live.

Moments of brilliance that you wish you had created or been a part of.
Sounds LikeIt was recorded on a Tascam Porta One cassette 4-track, 'cause it was.....

What ever you think we sound like.

   About Goldbug
Goldbug are Carl James, who makes most of the noise, and L.G. Edwards (the brains behind the operation) who plays the spoons when needed and provides an awful lot of general theoretical advice on such diverse topics as fashion, politics, travel, library science and eastern mysticism. Our chakras are aligned, even if our click track isn't!

The first bug recordings were at Anglesea Studio in Christchurch, New Zealand. Some say there is a lost album or three of recordings done in Auckland some time during the '90's. The recordings you can hear on this site are from a later session, again back at Anglesea Studio, Christchurch on a TASCAM Portastudio 4-track tape machine and were made after short tour of the US and England. The band is currently international in nature, Edwards residing in Auckland, N.Z. and James in Hamden, Connecticut in the USA.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a listen and feel free to let us know what you think. Check out our other website where we have an albums worth of demos you can check out:- http://gldbug.webs.com

We love to hear from anyone that wants to say "hi". The thing we like about myspace is we get to discover a whole world of music we didn't know existed. Hope you feel the same way.

We do plan to (self) release newer recordings (including some better recordings of these demos) at some point soon, but that all depends on time constraints, of which there are many.

We love a good pop song.

Our moody little number.

Hey there,

Here's one from left field...

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?

A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:

Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella

Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.

Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.

I encourage all to visit the YouTube page to learn more (Show support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly circulate as widely as possible, here:

Help to raise awareness.

Say have you checked out my web site recently?

Take care and keep in touch.

Best,
Faber.

Thanks for the comment....The Chills, as it was called before Martin Phillipps and The Chills of today, was an excellent era for us. I bought a drumkit not knowing how to play it, and formed The Chills with Martin and Peter Gutteridge at the time....a heap of fun!
By the way, I am working in Christchurch these days and maybe we may cross each others paths!!
