Please sign my petition for Arts in the Park I'm not sure if all of you have read about what Blackburn with Darwen Council are planning to do with Arts in the Park, and if you don't know about it, get reading up because this applies to ALL of us.
Blackburn with Darwen Council have decided to merge Arts in the Park with Mela. I think this is a good idea as it would stop the segregation going on in our society and encourage the mixing of cultures that apparently Blackburn is so proud of.
There is one problem I do have with the new ideas for the two day festival. After staging this year's Arts in the Park at King Georges Hall due to bad weather, the penny-pinching council have decided that this event should take place in King Georges Hall and the surrounding Public Houses this year. The problems I have with this are:
1. It will still encourage segregation as some of the events are being held in Pubs and it is against certain members of our community's morals to visit such establishments. The event should be about the townsfolk coming together to have fun , regardless of age, social group, status, or race.
2. It will encourage worse traffic problems in the town centre than the problems they were having with the parking situation at Witton Park.
3. The litter problems at Witton park during these events were terrible, but just think of how bad it would be if this litter was in our town centre.
4. The venues aren't big enough for the amount of people who attend these events, and every year more and more people want to attend.
5. People are more likely to binge drink if they are attending these events in Pubs. It was a lot less likely in the park because you either had to bring your own beer to the park (which is cumbersome so you tend to take less) or you have to buy expensive pints at the event's designated Beer Tent.
6. It was originally a family event. Anyone with kids know that children and pubs, especially town centre p
