Sounds Like
The soundtrack to a David Lynch film, only much less predictable.
Gone Like Train came together recently when saxophonist Nathan Hanson (Fantastic Merlins) and trombonist Christopher Cox (Junkyard Empire) discovered they had some mutual friends in the world of creative improvised music. Determined to jam together they made a few calls and the result was a session with bassist Brian Roessler (Fantastic Merlins, Jello Slave, Electropolis) and drummer Alden Ikeda (Gloryland Pony Cat, George Cartwright).
The session was so much fun that they decided they should do it again. The next time they played together was live at the Acadia Cafe. Both Brian and Alden could not make the gig, so it was the young Daniel Duke playing bass and Tim Glenn drumming for the show. The incomparable Dean Lembrecht recorded the show, so we are talking about a band that has its first ever gig recorded, and the plan is to have them all recorded.
It is always a rare treat to catch a group of longtime improvisers, with really busy schedules, together for an impromptu night of live experimental improvisation. Unrehearsed, not planned, but truly purposeful. This is the music of molecules; of the Earth itself; of the void between objects. It's an exercise in playing within the moment, totally focused upon the active unconscious that makes the world go round. And sometimes we end up playing the blues.

Hey fellow St. Paul-ians,
We'd like to spread the word about a cool new gig we have at the Black Dog Coffee and Wine Bar in Lowertown, St. Paul. We'll be playing each Wednesday around 7PM and will be bringing in inspired bands, poets, speakers, and more, each week as guest performers with us. The first one is January 21st, and is all ages each week. Thanks! - Graham (http://www. blackdogstpaul. com/events/news-109. shtml)
What is up.
brief memo: Junkyard Empire is at the Nomad World Pub tonight with "Lil' Slim's Blues Review" a top-notch blues group. Cheap drinks and blues and hip hop.
Hey Chris! No worries man, I'm sorry to have missed the Junkyard Empire gig, I was looking forward to checking that out and then got super ill (literally) hanging at Mill City after my gig with Adam. Hope you are well.
Chris! The tracks sound awesome! You guys have great chemistry. Hopefully I'll be able to catch one of your upcoming gigs and/or sit in at some point. Peace man. Park.
