Some tedious background info. I've always enjoyed music profoundly since a young age, but I didn't start developing a serious interest in music until our family got our first computer in 1998. I was introduced to General MIDI, which kick-started a more active interest in music. I became a big collector of midi sequences for many years, and I eventually got a cheap sequencer and MIDI keyboard in 2000. I started studying GCSE Music later that year, and began writing music in my free time. Following this, I studied both A level Music and A level Music Technology, and over the duration of all four years I also received jazz keyboard tuition, which not only helped me to play keys semi-competently, but also taught me a lot about jazz harmony and provided me with a musical toolset for my own compositions. Good thing too, as I never liked the performance element of it!
I went on to study a BA(hons) degree in Creative Music Technology at Bath Spa University.
I'm very passionate about video games and their soundtracks - both as a composer and a consumer. I help run the videogame music archive, and tend to involve myself in various similar game music communities (2a03.org, omidia, vgmix, vgmdb, ocremix, battleofthebits, hcs64, 8bitcollective and others). I listen to and enjoy all-sorts of music, artists, bands and composers - good music truly does transcend genres. That said. I've a particular fondness for fusion and other jazz-influenced music, experimental electronica and chip music. Music preference is a notoriously hard thing to quantify with few words, and possibly not that useful anyway. Check the tracks out and see for yourself!
Always looking for like-minded people to speak to, so don't hesitate to add me.
Damn, dude. That certainly meets all of the qualifications of the demand... I was just wanting to see myself on your page, but hey. I ain't complainin'!
Hi Dave,
many compliments to you, you are a real vg music composer! It's a pity that nowadays videogames have lost the magical art of chiptune sound.
I listened to your demo roll and, ARGH, I need at least two complete tracks. Near 3:54 and 5:00, but I am not so sure, there are some melodies that really impressed me.
You are very ecelptic, keep goin'!
