Echoing out of the mountains, creeks, and canyons, Good Friend weave steel strings and high tenors into countrified psych-pop. Brought together by a love of 12-string guitars and four-part harmonies, Good Friend are a NYC combo formed in the autumn of 2007. The group, composed of singer-guitarists Kyle Tanis & Corbett Schimming, multi-instrumentalist Keith Sigel, bass & melodica player Chris Sinderson and drummer Marcus James, coalesced around Kyle & Corbett's songs, with a kitchen-sink approach to arrangements and recordings. The songs themselves combine classic structures, controlled noise and people and places that are always just around the corner. The sound of Good Friend brings to mind the folk-pop of Buffalo Springfield and Gene Clark, the dissipated country of John Phillips and Mike Nesmith, and the vocal harmonies of the Beach Boys.
The band will release their debut LP Bonfire, recorded in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in summer 2009.
