Barry Connell - 'Frizzbomb' // Release date - 3rd November 2008 (Beatport exclusive), 1st December 2008 (other portals)
First times can always be a bit hit and miss, first sexual experience can be a nervous and ultimately unsatisfying affair, first car more than likely will fall apart in the first 100 yards and Bambi’s first walk out onto the ice wasn’t exactly a choreographed piece of fluid motion. Luckily this cannot be said of all firsts and in this case Scottish DJ sensation Barry Connell’s first production happily falls into the category of a triumph.
‘Frizzbomb’ the imaginatively titled trancer from the young star in the making hit the ground running in the best possible way. With support from a host of the headliners on the trance scene, including the likes of Eddie Halliwell with three weeks play in a row on his Radio 1 show a feat rarely achieved in a genre where good productions spring from every corner proving how truly good this was. However is wasn’t just Eddie who saw the genius behind this work, with regular airings from Armin Van Buuren, Judge Jules, John O’Callaghan and many others ‘Frizzbomb’ struck a chord and was here to stay. For the artist himself his offering peaked in his Radio 1 essential mix live from his residency at The Arches, Glasgow with the whole set building to it and just like it's creator, Barry Connell always did, it tore the roof off.
Tragically we lost Barry to acute meningitis in April but there could be no more fitting tribute to his musical gift than the masterpiece he has left us with. His debut production is a skilfully crafted track which builds and builds to an epic conclusion, a looping breakdown runs through the centre keeping the tempo rising and subtly breaking before unleashing a hard tech trance beat which will rip through any audience. To further cement this as Barry’s legacy new label ‘Goodgreef Digital’ will be releasing ‘Frizzbomb’ as the maiden release. Alongside this will feature a special series of emotionally driven remixes by some of Barry Connell friends and respected peers including Judge Jules, John O’Callaghan, Paul Webster, and Bryan Kearney.
Expect this to be available on ‘Goodgreef Digital’ early November 2008, shortly after what would have been Barry's 28th birthday. Sadly this is a release steeped in tragedy and usually would be a melancholy, sombre air, but this is Barry Connell one of the brightest and most energetic prospects in the trance scene for years. His skill, enthusiasm and zest for life do not relate to melancholy and sombre times so instead it is with excitement and joy that we give you Barry Connell’s ‘Frizzbomb’.
This is a completely non-profit release with all proceeds being raised for Barry’s family and their support of Meningitis UK so please support this release and encourage others too.
