GOOD HOOD is the artistic duo of DEUCE BROWN and SABREY from Evanston, Illinois, aka Da North Pole of Chicago. Their soulful brand of Hip-Hop seamlessly blends lyricism and topical rap with a unique style and street relevance. With passionate delivery and dedication to their craft, Good Hood is steadily grindin their way to success. Working with independent label HEAVY SYNDICATION and DJ ANONYMOUS, they recently released their debut street album, GRINDIN SEASON. Having known one another since childhood, Sabrey and Deuce began to work seriously on their music in high school as part of THE BILLA CLICK rap group. During this time, they performed at numerous showcases and open mics in the Chicagoland area, even opening for the legendary Chicago rap group Do or Die. In 2001, Deuce moved to Washington DC to further his education and in 2004, he co-founded the DC based hip-hop production house, Heavy Syndication. As Heavy Syndication grew, Sabrey sensed the opportunity to further his artistic endeavors, and in 2005 he moved to DC to work with Deuce, making hip-hop music his first priority. Since then, they have released Grindin Season, opened for Little Brother, Akir, & Fort Minor, and been featured on several industry mixtapes. Their shared history and combined determination to succeed are brilliantly displayed in their music.
Inspired by the hip-hop greats of the mid-90s, as well as artists of other genres such as Bob Marley, Curtis Mayfield, Carlos Santana, and Marvin Gaye, GOOD HOOD’s music pays tribute to a diverse heritage and blazes a trail for hip-hop’s future. Their distinctly different voices and styles create a balance that keeps listeners engaged. With varied concepts, passionate delivery, and clever lyrics, GOOD HOOD is built to last – they are a breath of fresh air in an industry where creativity is a scarce commodity. Most of all, they want their work to stand out as something that this generation of hip-hop fans can be proud of.
