Goodnight Streetlight is an experimental electronic pop project based in Vancouver, British Columbia, mostly concocted by me (raoul fernandes) with occasional help from friends. It has evolved from a playful low-fi jumble to a more assured, melodic and layered sound. Influences range from Aphex Twin to Sparklehorse to some of Radiohead’s more laptop-y stuff; yet remains in a distinct world of its own. File it under dreamy electronica as long as those dreams also include the fever dreams of waking up as an insect, or being chased by geometrical shapes through a meadow.
The Curfew Bell is my latest full-length release and can be ordered / previewed at cdbaby.com by clicking the cover below
the album's mp3s can be also downloaded at Itunes.com by clicking here
.. Hi there goodnight streetlight first of all we'd like to say thanks for being our myspace pal. We wanted to make sure you knew the reason incase we suddenly vanish off of your friends list. The movement we've started for indie artists has grown significantly and consumes all of our time these days. We seldom sign into our myspace account and this is making several people believe that we are ignoring them. We are not ignoring anyone, we wanted everyone to know that. What we're doing has become so busy we just don't have the time for myspace any longer, so in all honesty we are probably going to just close our myspace account.
Many people wanted to use us in the future so if you were one of those people you can click the link below to visit our profile which wlil provide you with more information and also give you the link to our website! I wish you the best of luck in your music career. Thanks again for being our myspace pal.
i don't know if i told you about this, but a while back i listened to mother mother after seeing them on yr myspace and they made me supersmiley. so thanks, raouly.
p.s. when the poems are taken you're the poem still left
Raoul, I love the music!!! I remember sitting with Aarti and drunkenly talking of probabilities and faith... hopefully she wasn't bored. I try and avoid talking about these things at parties, but as you can tell they are usually on my mind :). We should get together sometime soon, maybe next weekend?
Raoul, your music is divine. U got a hardened head starting to feel beyond the finger tips. If you died I'd dig you up and bring you back for one last kintata. we are each others elsewhere. peace.
hey there I finally have my first proper record out this week, on girlfriend records in the uk. after a long wait, u can finally get albinos music of your own, beautifully packaged with photos from the terribly talented mr. antoine mouton.
check it out at www.selectadisc.co.uk, and search for sketches for albinos...then u will find it
when i was talking about your poem this evening i said to my roommate "it just made me go like, 'dear raoul fernandes, will you marry me? love, marina.'" and farren thought i said the name of a publishing tycoon, so she said "why do you want to marry a publishing tycoon?" and i said, "so that he can publish raoul fernandes."
What's up Raoul... isn't that MY old Casio keyboard that I loaned to the occupants of the good ol Redneck Ranch? Even so, keep it, it is going to way better use in your hands. Cool music Brother!!!
Hi Raoul :) Thanks for adding me.. and let me know anytime you want some bassoon sounds... I would be honoured. I have a few snippets of things kicking around on my computer, some of them might work for splicing/looping, though I don't know much about that stuff.
okay, i will probably not be on the internet much if at all tomorrow, so i'm going to do this now...
congrats on yr new ring, sweetness. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAOULIAN XX X X X X X X X XXXXX XX X X!!! & all that. seriously. i hope it's lovely & so, so good. & that i'm right & it actually is tomorrow. either way, keep yr phone handy.
anyway at a mogwai show tonight all the sound built up up up & got thick and heavy and everything was massive and then when it started stepping back again i heard a bottle break somewhere in the back very clearly and it made me think of you. i liked it.
& c'mon raouly, even crazy quiet when am i not singing? (you light & stomping ground.) no but, i still really love singing but now it makes me nervous most of the time, when most people are around, etc. (i think you would be okay.) sean & i sang along to everything when we were little, though. lots of nirvana in the car.
do you know how funny it is seeing "online now" next to your picture? because, uh, i know you use myspace, obviously, but.. i don't know, it's really weird. i guess you're over there right now. i hope you're not cold or anything.
+ hearing from you always leads to lots of slow exhaling. more soon when some of this mess of a brain gets smoothed out, but i hope you know how big a "thank you" i always have when it comes to this r-shaped story. be good.
! if you got the song, i can feel like something i said that night didn't result in my completely embarassing myself... clearly no one should have to hear me be drunk & honest but my cats.
& get some goddamn music on this thing, raoul! then i can pretend you're on the other side of the room.
