rob sawyer band

You may have seen Rob Sawyer previously dragging round his acoustic guitar and stomp-box, with the likes of Donavon Frankenreiter, Jeff Martin, Carus, and Ash Grunwald. Over the last couple of years the 21-year-old Victorian has played all over the country with well-known international acts, as well as home grown Aussie performers and friends. He’s explored and spread his music during his own solo tours of Australia and Europe. Sawyer has given the Aussie festival scene a good nudge, and also managed to start his own independent record label ‘Treehouse Records’ to release his recordings. In 2006 Sawyers debut album ‘sTUFF’ was released. A recording made of many blends. One-drop reggae vibration that tickles your body’s subconscious dance movements, mixed with a bit of grit, and adolescent energy driven musical exploration. All whilst clearly depicting Sawyers front porch finger-style acoustic guitar work. The albums been selling like hot cakes from show to show over the country, winning over a new set of ears with every listen.

jess mcavoy

10 years in the Australian independent music industry and a history of flirting with musicians from a wide range of genres, Jess McAvoy tends to describe her music as being "Chick Music With Balls". Often placed in the folk genre, Jess' performance style is generally solo armed with a sexy acoustic guitar. Her Passion and skill highly evident in every performance, Jess' stage presence is disarmingly honest, and incredibly personable. With 6 self produced recordings under her belt, Jess has teamed up with Marty Brown (Clare bowditch and the feeding set) to produce her highly anticipated follow up album titled "Into the Dark" out now in all good record stores.

dan sultan

Dan Sultan was born with pure and extraordinary talent and is quickly gaining the momentum and recognition that he deserves. He has been nominated for a 2006 Deadlys Award “Most Promising New Talent”, invited by Paul Kelly to contribute to a Kev Carmody tribute album and identified by John Butler who has funded Dan’s debut album through The JB Seed Fund. Created with Scott Wilson, the debut album Homemade Biscuits is an accomplished album displaying versatility of talent with exceptional vocals that range from deep and velvet soulful yearnings to soaring heights reminiscent of Jeff Buckley. Each hook laden track finds its influence in Dan Sultan’s soulful brand of roots-blues-country rock and delivers something unique.

sam lohs

Melbourne based Sam Lohs has been a lead member of the internationally acclaimed and fiercely independent outfit, Fruit, who have recently celebrated their 11 year anniversary as one of Australia’s busiest touring acts. As a lead singer, guitarist and songwriter, Sam also performs solo and has recently released her highly anticipated (and very beautiful) second solo album, ‘We Trip Over Things’, a fine addition to her first release ‘6 degrees’. Sam’s stunning songwriting and delivery is reminiscent of those such as Joni Mitchell &Ani DiFranco.

emma heeney

After six years with Brisbane come Melbourne band 'Gorgeous', Emma Heeney is stepping out alone for the first time. 'Gorgeous' had success on the indie scene playing festivals such as Livid, The Valley Fiesta, Port Fairy & the Woodford Folk Festival and touring nationally headling their own shows and supporting the likes of Damien Rice, Pete Murray, The Whitlams, Frente and The Waifs to name a few. With five recordings (with Gorgeous), substantial airplay on national radio, televison appearances on the ABC, channel seven and channel nine and multiple guest appearances in albums including Pete Murray's 'Feeler' under her belt, Emma Heeney has launched her debut solo album 'Dreaming of Bridges'.

austin

Austin is a Geelong-based artist who produces an uplifting and inspiring style of acoustic blues. Austin has made a name for himself around Melbourne, Geelong and the SurfCoast using his unquestionable vocal talent, and playing a combination of acoustic, slide, and lap steel guitar, along with the harmonica and stomp box. Now in his early twenties, Austin has been playing music of all kinds most of his life. After having lessons on various instruments as a child, he discovered his musical talent while putting his own bluesy twist on any tune he played on piano. Austin then started playing drums and percussion, and soon grew an interest in several diverse styles of music, including jazz, folk, Middle Eastern, reggae, and pretty much anything acoustic. Thankfully for his fans, his passion for acoustic music led him to learning guitar.

freya hanly

Freya creates an honest, humorous and extremely diverse collection of songs. Live, Freya has the rare talent to infect her listeners with a zesty variety of joy that delights and endears her audience to her. Stylistically ranging from funky little jazz tunes featuring air- trumpet, to raging pub folk songs that pay out on the Australian icon the barfly, and then crossing the musical Atlantic to classically influenced, deeply poetic pieces, Freya's repertoire is anything but variations on a single theme.

samuel marcus
