Among many producers that have emerged from the South, Soul City Rekordings is one that will make the earth shake with bomb-release after bomb-release!
Soul City Rekordings consists of a trio of the dopest producers in the hip-hop underground scene in Little Rock. DJ Sta-Lo, D - M.A.C.K., and D Max J have come together to combine knowledge, experience, and from-the-heart talent to form a production company that will most definitely put Little Rock on the map. Coming from the Dirty South with some of the most dirtiest, rawest material… hip-hop heads will definitely nod!
Soul City Rekordings debuted on MP3 February 1, 2000 with their compilation release MIXX TAPE 2000, which is one of many long-awaited projects from co-owner DJ Sta-Lo. Soul City Rekordings has also released two collaboration projects with local group Ncahoots, Big Dre’, Icee Smiles from Major League and Ghetto Cientific.
The latest release from Soul City Rekordings is the “Goon Squad - G.S.M.F.” cd, which was given a pretty good review in the August 9, 2007 edition by local newspaper of politics and culture ‘The Arkansas Times’, which quotes “With more than 12 MCs and DJs involved in the project , “G.S.M.F.” is one of the most diverse hip-hop discs this state has produced. There’s something here for everyone. Their title cut ”G.S.M.F.” and “Ark’s Finest” are bouncing club tracks. “Low Down & Dirty” mixes a P-Funk style chorus with old-school verses reminiscent of Kurtis Blow or Funky Four + 1.”
Future projects will include album releases from artists featured on Goon Squad - G.S.M.F., co-owner D – M.A.C.K., and DJ Sta-Lo’s second mix tape release ‘Leader of the Pack’.
