Bio:
Talons are an instrumental band, who call the backwater town of Hereford their home. Forging the explosive energy of hardcore, the subtleties of post-rock and the fractured song structures and complexities associated with math-rock, Talons possess a fascinating sense of urgency and drive, with a sound that both soothes and savages in equal measure.
The six-piece are best experienced in a live environment, where the visceral, raw energy of their music can be fully appreciated.
So far Talons have had the pleasure of sharing stages with some great bands such as Japandroids, Three Trapped Tigers, Manchester Orchestra, Male Bonding, The Twilight Sad, iForward Russia!, 65 Days of Static, This Town Needs Guns, Future of the Left, Rolo Tomassi, Grammatics, Johnny Foreigner, Frank Turner, and Pulled Apart By Horses.
Huw Stephens has been a big supporter of the band, playing them throughout the year, from an initial demo through to the released singles (he even wished them good luck in their A-level results on air!). Talons have also featured in a new bands column in Q Magazine, were in Rock Sound’s ‘Ones to Watch for 2010’, and have played shows for Clash Magazine, Rock Sound and Drowned In Sound.
Signed to indie label Big Scary Monsters, Talons released debut single The Pearl in August 2009 to great reception from printed press to influential blogs. What followed was a series of two very limited edition split singles (100 copies each). The first ‘Bethlehem’ (a split with Irish rockers And So I Watch You From Afar), came out in December 2009 and sold out on pre-order. The next single, ‘Anthropods’ was a split with Chicago based noisemakers Noumenon, which was out in April and sold out in that same month. Both Anthropods and 'Trevelyan' a free download single have been produced by former iForward Russia! Frontman Tom Woodhead. Talons’ debut album is set to follow in Autumn 2010.
