The Third Annual Gotham Screen Film Festival drew to a close last night with the New York premiere of The Understudy, the new film by husband and wife directing and producing team David Conolly and Hannah Davis.

Stars in attendance on the red carpet at Tribeca Cinemas last night were Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show, Ghost Town, The Proposal and the upcoming Today’s Special), Reiko Aylesworth (Lost, ER, Aliens vs Predators and soon on Damages), Peter McRobbie (16 Blocks, World Trade Center) and Emanuele Ancorini. Also spotted on the red carpet: Mike Steinberg from The Bachelorette.
In the concluding ceremony the winners of the film competition and the winning screenplays from the screenplay contest were announced.

The Gotham Screen Film Festival and Screenplay Contest is held annually at the end of October in New York City and was hosted this year again at the Tribeca Cinemas in Lower Manhattan.
The Gotham Screen Film Fest draws each year from a wide variety of American and International submissions, and attempts to give industry and audience exposure to films and filmmakers whose work would not otherwise get seen in New York, or in the US. Over half the films shown this year were US premieres, and Gotham Screen intends to continue this tradition of introducing new films and filmmakers to American audiences.
The organizers wish to thank everyone who made this year’s festival such a great success, and look forward to welcoming Filmmakers and Film Fans from around the world again in Fall 2010.

The Gotham Screen Film Festival & Screenplay Contest:
In this trying time for the economy, the film industry has proven to be one of the rare bright spots, with 2009 box office admissions and box office up over 15%, year on year in the first months, and it looks like the trend will continue. The worst of times can be the best of times - we strongly believe that there exist great opportunities for filmmakers and screenwriters, and that this is an important time for artists, to go out there and make themselves heard and seen.
The 3rd Annual GOTHAM SCREEN Film Festival and Screenplay Contest will take place October 20th thru 25th 2009 in New York City.
Following the success of the 2008 edition, this year's event has been expanded to showcase more short and feature films during six days of screenings. The festival will again present films from around the world, including World, US and New York premieres.
GOTHAM SCREEN presents fresh voices and perspectives from local, national and international filmmakers. The mission of the festival is to create a positive industry and audience exposure for works that would otherwise not easily get seen, and give New Yorkers a chance to see fresh, undiscovered cinema from around the US, and the world.
The GOTHAM SCREEN film festival showcases cutting-edge feature, documentary and short films from independent, first- or second-time directors as well as international releases making their East Coast or US debut.
GOTHAM SCREEN tries to connect overlooked US and international films with a discerning New York audience, with the aim of boosting both the films’ and the filmmaker’s profiles in what has become an increasingly overloaded marketplace. GOTHAM SCREEN focuses exclusively on new names and lesser known filmmaking regions. The festival aims to be truly a place for new discoveries, for both audiences and industry professionals.
The 2009 Screenplay Contest comes again with a $2,500 cash prize for the winning screenplay. In addition, excerpts from a finalist screenplay contest entry will be performed live by professional actors at a staged reading during the festival.? The winners of the film contest will receive valuable production software, and other production-related gifts and prizes.
