About me:
Set up to fill a gap after the demise of Edinburgh Uni's alternative student union, EdG&R has now been going for 10 years!
If you're interested in alternative music in any of its shapes or forms, in going to alternative pubs, gigs and clubs (and getting discounts at the best ones), or even running clubs and gigs of your own - then this is the right place!
We set out to run clubs and gigs and anything our members want really! At the moment we run the following clubs:
- Adrenaline - a band centred night, plus DJs playing a range of metal, rock and punk. Adrenaline mainly puts on local bands, to help promote the Edinburgh scene.
- Cyberia - our successful EBM night, featuring a range of electronic music accompanied by futuristic visuals, along with glowsticks, dressing up, and lots of dancing.
- Bloodlust - if you like extreme metal, this is the place for you. The only extreme night in the capital and possibly in the region!
- Punk Off - our punk charity night (formerly known as Punk in Public). With fantastic local bands, punk DJs playing everything from ska to old school to emo to psychobilly, free sweeties and all profits going to charity, what more could you want!
- We're also proud to be associated with the fantastic Fimbulvetr - one of the only clubs catering for neo-folk and darkwave in the entire country.
- EdG&R are also affiliated with FNGSE - A fortnightly club playing the full gothic spectrum, starting 2nd November.
Ultimately though, we're a member driven society, so we try to get people involved as much as possible: if we don't have a club you like, then we'll do our best to help you set up a night of your own.

The best thing about EdG&R is that you're guaranteed to meet loads of people you've got stuff in common with, so it's easy to find people to go to all the aforementioned pub, clubs and gigs with - whether they're ones we run ourselves or not!

Who I'd like to meet:
Anybody who wants to get involved in the social/organising/technical side of things in the society. Everyone is welcome. We're particularly looking for bands who want to promote themselves by getting onto our freshers cd. Must be from the local Edinburgh area.
Any national bands are welcome to send us cds/stickers/badges too, we get about 200 freshers every year and it's an important promotional activity that we're willing to do for you.
