Once upon a time, guitarist SCOTT SAWYER envisioned a new band, to interpret his music and his arrangements of other people's music...an "electric power trio" with a healthy respect for "space" (the silence between notes)...
One fine day, he heard the album "Righteous" by a band called “DAG”...
The groove got his attention and even though he had known DAG members Bobby Patterson (bass) & Kenny Soule (drums) for awhile, he had yet to play with them both at the same time...
After a pickup gig in Raleigh (NC), they rehearsed and booked a real gig for April 15th, 1999 (which inspired Scott to re-do George Harrison's "Taxman")...they named the band GO THERE, it was fun so they decided to do it again.
Eventually other priorities and life got in the way...GO THERE disbanded in December 2004.
In November 2006, Sawyer returned to the studio to record an "electric" album. He enlisted musicians Kenny Soule, Kofi Burbridge, Oteil Burbridge and Ron Brendle. The result: “SCOTT SAWYER-GO THERE”.
With GO THERE resurrected, Scott Sawyer continues to push the envelope. A melting pot of musical influences, GO THERE is all about communication, groove and taking chances.

WORD
“…we're pleased to play Scott's music...it sounds great on the air and fits the channel perfectly. Keep up the great work...” –Russ Davis (Program Director, XM Radio “Beyond Jazz”; 11/16/07)
"THE BADDEST MOTHER F*****S I’VE HEARD IN 10 YEARS!" --Oteil Burbridge (World renowned bass player, 8/1/04)
"One of the best bands playing through the circuit!" --Eric Mullins (Owner,
The Pour House Music Hall; Raleigh, NC)
"GO THERE is definitely a breath of fresh air, demonstrating an example of where we can all go when we step outside the box and take that musical chance." --RaleighMusic.com (Jay Shirley)
"Though Sawyer can swing cerebrally, solving prickly harmonic riddles like a mathematician, he’s at his best as a blue-collar improviser, combining earthy jazz and accessible blues that make the listener wanna holler. My fave Sawyer-led combo is GO THERE…." --The Independent Weekly (Joe Vanderford)
"GO THERE is about as nasty as it gets! These guys will twist and turn a tune that will bring you to your knees, begging for mercy and hoping for more. And, despite the absence of vocals, a GO THERE show will never leave you wishing for a song to be sung, as the melodies and grooves captivate the audience from
beginning to end." --RaleighMusic.com (Mike Rosado)

Guitarist SCOTT SAWYER has been making music for years, playing venues of every description: music clubs, beer-soaked dives and prestigious venues around the world.
Though Sawyer can swing cerebrally, solving prickly harmonic riddles like a mathematician, he's at his best as a blue collar improviser combining funk, earthy jazz and accessible blues that make the listener wanna holler. Scott’s band GO THERE reflects his interest in various genres.
Today, GO THERE continues to push the envelope and advance their tradition of "edgy provocative groove"…compelling originals, unique reconstructions of classic songs and plenty of intense jamming. A melting pot of musical influences, GO THERE is all about groove, communication and taking chances.

From 1982-1996 Scott Sawyer spent most of his time in the jazz & improvised music trenches. Since then, he has enjoyed a steady return to his rock & blues roots while continuing to explore the jazz tradition & beyond.
Scott has performed in the USA, Brasil, Canada, Europe, Asia, The Middle East & Central America. Experienced & adept in jazz, blues, r&b, rock and pop settings, he has shared the stage/studio with a diverse group of notable musicians including Charlie Byrd, David Murray, Jon Lucien, Ghezzi, Lois Deloatch, Willie Pickens, Jon Metzger, Oteil Burbridge, Gongzilla, Bill Anschell, Ed Thigpen, Buster Williams, Scott Ainslee, Mel Melton as well as many lesser-known artists. Scott has performed numerous times with jazz singer Nnenna Freelon at clubs,
concerts and festivals worldwide including the 1992 Philip Morris Superband World Tour. He remains a favorite accompanist & sideman of many NC-based musicians.
Sawyer's most recent album “Go There “ was released in April 2007. “Go There” was well-received and charted on XM Radio's “Beyond Jazz”. In addition to his own recordings, Scott has appeared as sideman on numerous commercially available recordings including Nnenna Freelon's 1997 Grammy-Nominated release "Shaking Free" (Concord Records)
and pianist Bill Anschell's "a different note all together" (Accurate). Scott has also arranged & recorded music for film (including "Once Around" w/ actor Danny Aiello).
In 1994, "Blue Diner" - a contemporary ballet set to Sawyer's composition "Blue Diner" from his album "In The Stream" - premiered at City Center Studios (NYC). Scott later performed it live “on-stage” with dancers including prima ballerina Marie-Christine Mouis (Paris Opera Ballet, Nureyev & Friends) at Ballet Group International's Inaugural
Concert (Durham, NC).
Sawyer has also interpreted visual art through his own
compositions...“Dark Lady” and “Slow Down Freight Train” appear on his album “Go There” (Doll).
As time allows, Scott produces music recordings for singer/songwriter Ghezzi and others...many have been featured on College, Internet and regional FM radio.
Scott has been a featured artist/clinician/speaker at numerous venues including UNC-Chapel Hill (NC), University of Wisconsin (Whitewater), UNC-Greensboro (NC), University of South Florida (Tampa), The Institute of the Arts @ Duke University (Durham, NC), Magellan School (Raleigh, NC) and Chapel Hill High School (Chapel Hill, NC). He continues to work on an individual basis with a limited number of music/guitar students.
Scott’s band GO THERE reflects his interest in various genres. In November 2006, Sawyer recorded "GO THERE" with Kenny Soule (Nantucket, Dag) on drums, Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers, Aquarium Rescue Unit) on electric bass, Kofi Burbridge (Derek Trucks Band) on B3 & flute and Ron Brendle (Frank Kimbrough) on acoustic bass. The sessions re-united Sawyer & Soule from the original GO THERE, which enjoyed a cult following in NC but disbanded in 2004. Also, Kofi and Oteil were reunited for their first recording together in 8 years.
"There was no prior rehearsal and we had to work very quickly...but it was BIG FUN making this record and the music reflects that!" —(SS)
