Formed in 2000, our first 4 song EP "Give Me More Death...Or I'll Take Your Life" was released on our own imprint Black Blood Records in the summer of 2001. It debuted our patented four lead vocal assault, and featured inexplicable pictures of office supplies. Our parents hated it.
In 2002 we released the ultra rare kid friendly follow-up "We Just Turned Thirteen" in addition to undertaking an East Coast tour. Once again, this was a four song EP.
2004 found us trekking out to Joshua Tree to record our first full length LP "Goth Bless America" at Rancho de la Luna studios with Tim Boland, master of big rock sounds. The 10 song assault caught the attention of hipster rock label Rudyland Records who quickly snapped up Black Blood as a subsidiary. After having our music featured on numerous MTV reality shows, "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer," and a Microsoft ad, (some fat guy in a butterfly outfit turns off a boombox playing "We Bleed Black") we hunkered down with Virginia super producer Rob Evans to record our magnum opus "Let It Pound," which you just purchased.

LAWRENCE REVOG: Caught the Goth Jones Unvaulted on the Midnight Hour of Harrys KSPiL 96 in the Valley radio. JOEY JONES: KSPiL 96 is one of my favs yeah they've always been kind to the striving musician can i get a couple of questions answered for the article? JOEY: fire away.... LAWRENC : I have to ask you, are you "THE Sam Retzer of Goth Jones?" JOEY JONES: well, is there a Sam Retzer in the band? I thought his name was Joey Jones? LAWRENCE: Right right! Let’s start at the beginning. When you first started playing, what was going on musically? JOEY JONES: when I first starting playing drums for this band, Goth was a mostly forgotten footnote of rock n roll. As the years went on and we continued to struggle in obscurity, suddenly Interpol, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and many other neo-Goth bands sprung out of the woodwork. I guess it would have helped if we actually played Goth music. LAWRENCE: When did you get your first Drum Kit I inherited my brother's kit in the early 90s after he quit playing and then gave that kit to Ben of the Petitoners. LAWRENCE: Were your parents musical? JOEY JONES: yes. LAWRENCE: What music did you play when you first started? JOEY JONES on the drums? LAWRENCE: yeah mate JOEY: We couldn't find a drummer for GJ, so that was the only reason I got stuck behind these dusty old things. LAWRENCE: What kind of Drums do you use for session work? JOEY JONES: i started out with a rag tag of borrowed drums, but for the last two albums I've had my patented "Ringo" Ludwig 70s kit, with a Slingerland copper snare, and busted up old cymbals. LAWRENCE: this is the last one i'll ask... Can you describe your drumming style.... since you don't have to hit the right notes, just do whatever you feel like doing that falls roughly on the right beats, and try your best to make it to the end of the song. LAWRENCE: GOTH JONES ROCKS. Thanks Joey.
The BBC Sessions The recent release of Goth Jones's: The BBC Sessions is a collection of three concert broadcasts from the BBC programs John Peel's "Top Gear," Chris Grant's "Tasty Pop Sundae" and Radio One's "In Concert" series.
The performances on this collection capture the rawest Goth jones I have ever heard. Jones were known to be perfectionists in the studio, indulging in many overdubs and many months to make a record. Their studio results were historically slick and well produced.
This record is not. It is under-produced, nasty and absolutely great. Mics feedback and Handi plays never heard before solos in songs, that have for me, become far too familiar with twenty-plus years of radio play. It is obvious with Joeys vocal style and impresario persona, that the early live performances didn't allow him the vocal latitude to pull off his most stunning tricks. Nonetheless, the overall performances are close to the group's bluesy heritage and are simply fun to get involved with.
that looks like some official studio footage! i need a copy of the disc. how come there was no manowar poster in the rudyland studio when we recorded there?
