New CD with Songs of Social & Political Change released on
Wildflower Records
Here are some excerpts from the album:
Wildflower featured artist Amy Speace lends a haunting song, "The Weight of the World", to this compilation album. This song tells of the heartbreak of losing a brother who was a soldier to war: "The weight of the world, too heavy to lift/So much to lose, so much to miss/It doesn't seem fair that an innocent boy/Should have to carry the weight of the world."
Legendary singer/songwriter and Wildflower Co-Founder Judy Collins sings Leonard Cohen's song of hope "Democracy", which resonates with a timely message: "It's coming to America first/The cradle of the best and of the worst/It's here they got the range/And the machinery for change". The lyrics speak of promise and are fitting in this current political climate, stating that "Democracy is coming to the U.S.A."
Songs like "Drawing Board" by Kenny Whiteresound with heartfelt disdain for the previous administration and the significance of a change in leadership: " For all of our hell fire, believing in right/For all of our money and all of our might/And all of the times that we stand up to bow/It's back to the drawing board now." Mr. White assures the listener that we will move forward from our troubles of the past, with "For all that we've mended, then torn and then sewn/For all of the fingers worked to the bone......somehow we get past Stalin, Hitler and=2 0Mao/But it's back to the drawing board now."
Wes Charlton, a Nashville-based, roots-influenced singer-songwriter, makes a passionate call for social change with his song "Change Will Come." He appeals to the listener to "Pray a change is going to come/Rise above the lies/Rise above the war." He asks the question "haven't we been here before?" as the song lends hope for change and a brighter, more peaceful future.
And, Iranian-American troubadour Ali Eskandarian -who has been compared to greats like Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley- contributes his original recording "Government Meat." The song gives a tongue in cheek critique of big government policies that haven't been working, with its lyrics "I wish somebody would come along/Show me how to take care of my money, honey/I want some of that government meat, baby/Walking around with shoes with holes...If only I was the only one."
