Sounds Like
I hope, nothing like this..........
.....shows what damage can be done if a drum kit falls into the wrong hands!!
How about this Leisure Process (Gary Barnacle/Ross Middleton) classic called A Way You'll Never Be. Mark King and I played on it......
Born Hong-Kong, grew up Isle of Wight, dabbled with instruments until age 15 when drums took over. First band folk-rock, a la Fairport Convention. Played in a number of bands, the best of which was called Joe Bear, why I'll never know. Late teens, played Summer seasons in holiday camps. Earned enough money, however, to be able to study through the winters and fund my own way, eventually, to the Royal Academy of Music (en route meeting maestro Mike Lindup while studying part-time at the Guildhall School of Music). Played a few sessions, then (sort of) joined M (Robin Scott - Pop Muzik) and spent summer of '79 in Montreux, Switizerland recording first M album, and the summer of 1980 in Eastbourne, recording the second M album! Great first recording experiences, which lay the foundations for the way Level 42 records were made.
Through M, met Wally Badarou, who was to become an integral part of Level 42, which evolved, with Mike Lindup, brother Boon and fellow IoW compadre Mark King, the same year and also involved, again from the M sessions, Gary Barnacle. Spent 20's (80's) in Level 42, left age 30 glad to have made a contribution, but also glad to be off the road. Now spend time writing, playing and producing in any number of scenarios, anything to not be on the road, basically! Though the live element is creeping back in again these days!
Thanks so much to all those who played, sang or technically assisted on these tracks. It's a rare honour indeed to have access to such special musicians, and such great people!
Great news about the album!! Better late then never. Leisure Process...now thats a blast from the past. I've still got the 12 inch of that track. Do you know what ever happened to Ross? Such a great voice, especially on 'The Fluke' which was my favorite.
I heard that you have finished your album. That is great news! I'm really looking foward to buying a copy of it. I know it will not disappoint because you are such a talented artist and you have other talented artists surrounding you (Mike, Bereniece, Diane, etc). I love what I have heard so far. Great stuff!
P.S. - I don't know if you remember recommending Tangerine Dream's album Phaedra to me, but I was lucky enough to find a copy and it is reaaly good. Thanks for that!
PHIL - FANTASTIC NEWS about your album - I cannot wait to sit and enjoy every bit! Good luck with the distribution, anyone passes on it - they're f-n crazy man! I am very happy for you Phil - CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Phil, thank you for your friendship and music. Many people do their possible to change the world in better, but will we succeed? I wish you the best
I'm Myspace friends with one of my main drumming influences! Now if Vinnie, Clyde, Stewart, and Jojo would just answer my damned friend requests.... All young drummers should be made to practice to your songs like "A Physical Presence" to build taste, pocket, and meter. A thousand blessing of peace and health to you and all of yours, Mr. Gould. Thanks for the add, holmes
Hello Phil, i still love the songs on your player so much, but what now?? Saturday - next week i..m off in the summerhols in Denmark.....without Phil..s cool music, because the CD is..nt ready. OMG how i can survive that?? lol I hope you are well. Can..t wait to hear the songs if I ..m back home. :*)) Greetings from Germany Katrin :+))
Tnx 4 the add... When I heard your songs w/ Level 42, and heard you play.... my love for drums was born ;-). Too bad I never had the chance to see you play live, only on tv.... :-(.. but maybe you have plans on giving gigs in Holland soon???? :-) :-) :-)??? Take care.. Margie
Hi Phil, hope things are well with you, enjoying the music and thanks for all you taught me about playing drums (and wearing round shades of coarse!!!!) cheers
The solid backbone of early level 42. Doesn't it feel weird to see this current line up fucking up what was once such a fantastic group of people? But then again, it's probably been so many years since you felt level 42 was part of your life. But man, when i see the wembley show in '86 it's that lil' sunglassed geezer behind that yellow kit that gets all my respect! Will you be touring in The Netherlands anytime soon?
Oh my you Got Diana on here too now .. its always a pleasure to hear her voice & a great way to end the day thanks so much for putting this one on the player Phil !!
Now I've just found that your new tunes, which providing me ennui atmosohere, could ease my mind suffering from this hot and humid summer in Nara, Japan. Thank you.
