This is our original myspace intro: My name is Bru Bruser, bassist and bandleader for Government Majik. I had an afro-beat band by the same name before Katrina that was killin... After the flood it was down to the tenor saxophonist Allen Dejan (Skychild) and myself, which left us on pause for a good while (guess that's life...). Eventually one of my old bandmates from the Hi-Life Rescue Dance Band, drummer Dylan "Sticks" Hicks, moved back to New Orleans from Chicago and we decided to get the new Gov't Majik started. Allen, Dylan and I recruited David Hyman on guitar (Triple Delight), Jamelle Williams on trumpet (Sky Child), Eduardo Tozzatto (Otra) on Keyboards, and Brent Rose on tenor sax (Otra) and started playing gigs around New Orleans. Then we added Erik Klerks (Other Planets) on guitar, Khari Lee on alto sax, Ian Smith on trumpet, and Gabriel Velasco (EOE) on percussion to filll out our ranks and make sure we had the proper amounts of afro-beat fire power! If you've seen any of these cats, then you know whats up - this band is burnin!!! We are a collective of artists committed to making progressive, expressive dance music and being a positive force in rebuilding and redefining New Orleans. We will help the people of New Orleans shed their pain and bring their message to the world! The time is now - welcome to the war for tomorrow.
much Love,
Bru Bruser for Gov't Majik.
