My name is Steve (No! Really?) & I live on the south coast of England. GP Future is a motorcycle racing campaign I set up with a friend whose aims are:
Raising the profile of motorcycle racing in the mainstream media.
Getting more recognition for up & coming British riders.
Finding ways of funding items (i) & (ii).
Seeing a British rider lift the world MotoGP trophy.
GP Future wants to get ideas from anyone who may be interested in helping us achieve these aims. We are not professional lobbyists or marketing men. We are simply enthusiastic race fans. We want to hear from teams, riders, managers or anyone who may have something to offer us in building up the campaign.
We have a website, www.gpfuture.com and invite people to look in and comment.
We also want to hear from riders who want to either promote their website or who want one. We can offer simple single page CVs or complete websites to enable riders to raise their profile. Check the site's "Showcase" page for more information.
Yes, we are serious about trying to make a change and to get that elusive goal. So, please look at the site. Alternatively, you could email me with your suggestions at my official email address.
On a personal scale; I'm a fan of bike racing (track) in all it's forms; club racing, BSB, SBK, MotoGP. I try to help out a friend in one of the BEMSEE race series' and go and support him whenever I can.
I'm a member of the Shane Byrne Fan Club and contribute regularly to the Shakey.com forum. I've followed Shakey's progress from his BSB championship-winning year through SBK wild card, MotoGP and back to BSB. Being (sort of) local to my old neck of the woods, it seemed natural to support him. Plus he's a bit of a lad, isn't he?
I'm also volunteer rider for SERV, also known as the Bloodrunners. We transport blood product out of hours from St Georges hospital, Tooting, to hospitals in Sussex, Surrey & Kent. A good cause, plus an excuse to ride a bike for charidee, mate.
Who I'd like to meet:
At BSB race meetings, any team managers that might give me some pointers to help the campaign along.
Any suppliers to the racing community:
Tyre manufacturers
Chain stockists
Oil product stockists
Graphic design companies
Bodywork suppliers
etc...
At BEMSEE race meetings, any rider or team that is prepared to talk to me :). I'll (usually) be found nosing around YPM bike #63, or wandering aimlessly in the paddock. If you're going to be at a BEMSEE meet and want a chat, send me a message beforehand and I'll send you my mobile number.
no worries. i wasn't in the best of form over the weekend :)
we're defo moving into the BSB paddock but which class yet, we don't know. will all depend on sponsorship weather it be the R1 cup, or the Junior Superstock.
Thanks for wishing me a happy birthday, but it probably wont be as i'v been ill all week and it will probably continue through my birthday :(
This is what happened in Germany. I queued up for an hour in the cold, got to the desk and the guy said "ok lets just check your details" and on the paper it showed my birthdate and it said 8th spetember 1992, i said no thats wrong its 1991, and he said "well your too old then by 2 months" i was like noooooooooo and my dad was like noooooooooo, so they sat me on the side and i waited another 30mins for everyone to finish signing on, he eventually said i could ride but i would only get through if i was exceptional. In the 1st session all the bikes were set up wrong on purpose so the riders would give feedback e.g really soft suspension, not enough damping and stuff, the rev counter didnt work either so it was a sort of learning the bike session, but it was ok cos they didnt judge you in the 1st session. In between sessions i made sure i went up to the guys and talked about setup when no one else did hoping that it would make up for being 2 months too old. In the 2nd session after they had adjusted the bikes up with a stiffer shock (still no damping) I beat everyone in my group and 2 bsb 125 riders, came in and thought i was in. waited till the end of the day and red bull put a poster on the wall that showed who was invited back to the 2nd day, my name wasnt on it so i was gutted but then i got told by an official that even if your name wasnt on you might be good enough so that they dont have to watch you round the track again, so usually im pretty sure i would have got in, but i got the "sorry you were not chosen" email yesterday, i was ready for that though as i sort of knew i wouldnt get in, a few good things that came out of it though was a big boost in confidence, soon im gonna put my aprilia up for sale and get a Gp bike and try and g
