"On the Tracks" is available at electric fetus in minneapolis and will soon be available on cdbaby.
Grace Darling is a Minneapolis-based trio influenced by American roots music, great writers, snowy days, and whiskey straight from the flask. Their music can be described as a raw, charged blend of traditional roots, bluegrass, modern folk and old-time music. The band’s personal taste in music is wide and varied and their stereos have been known to play anything from Johnny Cash to Missy Elliot or Electrelane to Neko Case at any given moment. This wide and eclectic taste is what has helped them craft a sound all their own.
Grace Darling is composed of members Lea Birbilas, Crystal Brinkman, and Barbara Jean Meyers each of whom play several different combinations of the guitar, banjo, mandolin, viola, violin, harmonica, melodica, ukulele, and washboard. They began playing together in 2002 after meeting at their workplace. Upon learning that Crystal played guitar and Barbara Jean played the viola, Lea went and bought a battered old mandolin with the hopes of starting a band. Their hopes were met and after many bike rides, breakfasts, late night practices, and tests of friendship, a shared love of making music emerged and helped them craft a distinctive sound and original repertoire. The band went from playing living rooms and benefit cabarets, to playing regularly at the Twin Cities’ favorite venues.
After a successful fundraiser and saved gig money the band was able to record their first album “On the Tracks” in a cold Minneapolis basement studio. Released in the spring of 2006, it features fourteen original tracks that can be described as a moving, emotive collection of pieces unique to their stories of heartache and healing. The most personal moments of “On the Tracks” become a celebration of Grace Darling’s ability to turn confusion into beauty and loss or new love into a sweet and simple melody. The personal nature of their music makes it easy to relate to, and a joy to listen.
To celebrate their first album, and to broaden their already loyal fan base, Grace Darling is planning a tour during the spring of 2007. They’re also in the process of writing their second album, which is due out fall 2007. Plus they all really like riding their bicycles.

Pocahontas County is playing at the Turf Club in St. Paul on Sunday
October 18th. We will be doing 2 full sets followed by a pop band
featuring some friends of ours.
Just to let you know, LOUDRAY is still holding church on Thursdays.
We've been holding it down there for 10 months and as our 1 year
anniversary of this residency approaches we are stepping up the
revival. For the past 8 months we've been joined by some of the finest
musicians in town (Martin Devaney, Ric Lee, Glenn Hanson, Dave Babb,
Jake Hyer, Kurt Froelich, Meg Ashling, Jen Markey, Mother Banjo, Eliza
Blue, Pete Bauer, just to name a few) but for the next 2 months, it's
just going to be the classic LOUDRAY duo of Jon Stowell and Colin
Anderson. We will be digging deep into the back catalog of songs and
bringing some new light through these old windows.
We have been doing these shows in the classic "unamplified" style as of late and look to continue that trend.
So, stop in for some fellowship and true acoustic music, and wash away the week with sweet, redeeming booze.
$2.75 select taps from 5-7pm!!! Plenty of parking!!
Come on, isn't it time to slum it at the Dub!!

It's us telling you about what matters to us. We are releasing our DEBUT CD "The Lonesome Road Society" on Friday February, 29th 2008. It was recorded over last summer with Rick Anderson and mastered by Matthew Zimmerman at Wild Sound. This event will take place at our favorite stomping grounds, the 331 club in ne mpls. We will be joined by the Sans Souci Quartet, the amazing Jon Rodine and his varying band of Mystics, plus to cap off the night whilst we celebrate, Cryns #3. This is a free event, and we are only making 1000 cd's. That's all. We hand make the packaging, cut the cardboard ourselves, I, Hatpan, hand cut linoleum blocks to print the covers ( you can see some advance art work in our photo galleries (under the POSTERS album)). We will be doing a tour in the spring with Eliza Blue, so be sure to come out and get a CD, because 1000 isn't a lot in todays world. After we sell all 1000 copies, we will have the album available for downloading at our gigs, but you will not get the hand made art work.
This show is free.
It starts at 9pm.
Mark your calanders and don't be fooled by LOUDRAY imitators!!!
If you have questions, send us an email at loudbanjo@gmail.com.
