Young Glory is an outlet for worship songs written by Matt Blick for his home church, Grace Church Nottingham, part of the Newfrontiers network of churches.
Matt has been playing guitar for 24 years (after brief false starts on Drums and...erm...Tuba), & has been recording and gigging for 22 years with all sorts of bands from Heavy Metal, Jazz orchestras, Contemporary Gospel & Iranian Bagpipe bands. His music teaching career coincided with his conversion to Christianity (“God convicted me that I should get a job”) and he joined the team that planted Grace Church Nottingham in 2002. He is responsible for developing worship teams & is married with 4 children.
What's With The Name?
Inspired by a quote from puritan writer Alexander Peden ("Grace is young glory"), the name is a reminder that the saving grace we recieve through Christ will ultimately result in the glory of an eternity with God.
As another puritan Thomas Watson writes,
"The kingdom of grace is nothing but the beginning of the kingdom of glory.
The kingdom of grace is glory in the seed,
and the kingdom of glory is grace in the flower.
The kingdom of grace is glory in the daybreak,
and the kingdom of glory is grace in the full meridian...
The kingdom of grace leads to the kingdom of glory.”
The name reflects my great joy and confidence in the sovereignty of God in salvation "Those whom he justified he also glorified" (Romans 8:30)
We all go to the Kick-Ass Churches of Winchester: Me, Jez, I go to Vineyard with Ed and Emily, Mikey goes to Harvest and Mat and Ian go to Christ Church
Hi Matt! Good to hear from you. Yeah, things are going well. I still play bass on the occasional Sunday! How are you and all at Grace Church? I still pray for and think of you all often.
