Lounging, patrolling the yard for squirrels, running, sleeping, meeting new people, kissing new people, and cuddling.
Serving as inspriration for Kansas City Dog Advocates, really it is a full-time job.
Music
Depends on my mood. Old country takes me back to my youth.
Anything by Malcolm Gladwell (check out his great article on pit bulls at the New Yorker); Steven Levitt's Freakonomics, Janis Bradley's Dogs Bite, But Balloons and Slippers are More Dangerous; Sudhir Venkatesh's (he's friends with Levitt) American Projects; Gotham's Race, Real Estate, and Uneven Development; Ken Foster's The Dogs Who Found Me
About me: I enjoy warm afternoons by the window. I prefer peanut butter in my kong, long runs, and quality snuggle time.
I was dropped at a rural Indiana shelter with my litter of pups. I was less than 35 lbs (and now am 50 at a healthy weight). The shelter staff didn't think I'd make it. They named me Grace because I survived by the Grace of God and because I was a good momma with my pups and all the other dogs and cats at the shelter. The vet who spayed me believes that I had at least three or four previous litters; honestly I block all of that out, so I'm not sure.
My human companions/parents adopted me after I had spent four months at the shelter. I was happy to go home to a posh indoor lifestyle. Really my coat was not made for midwestern winters.
I have since inspired my 'rents to volunteer for dog causes. They're very active with KC Dog Advocates. Since I am athletic I am an exercise plan for the 'rents, too.
Since I became the center of our household, my 'rents have fostered two dogs and foster-failed on one. Honestly I don't know why they kept the dope, but oh well. Dixon is a good companion most of the time.
Who I'd like to meet: Likeminded folks who love the outdoors, exercise, and smart folks. Not dimwitted politicians. Also people who vote. If I could, I would.
Americans should vote!
