Grady Skelton Band Bio:
The Grady Skelton band, originated in College Station, Texas back in early 2008. At the time, the group was known as Grady Skelton and the South College Band since much of the framework of the band started in the tiny pub located on S. College Ave. called Carney’s. “It was more of an inside joke between us and a few that knew why we called ourselves Grady Skelton and the South College Band or the SCB,” says Grady. “We decided to drop it once we started playing out of town a lot more and we didn’t want to be known simply as a college band.” “Now we like to make up a new name every night we play, an idea inspired by Jerry Jeff Walker and the Lost Gonzo Band, Grady Skelton and the .... It’s a good way to pass the time in the Excursion, thinking up crazy things to call ourselves.”
The Band itself today consists of Grady Skelton (lead vocal/rhythm guitar), Jeremy Moreno (on drums), Jose Razo (on bass), James Bobal (on lead guitar), and occasionally featuring Zack Morgan (on organ/keyboard).
In recent news, the Grady Skelton Band has just released their debut, self titled album which was produced by Rich Brotherton of Ace Recordings and lead guitar player for Robert Earl Keen, and has already begun to see air play with the single “Give Up on Me.” This album is a collection of styles rooted in the influences of southern rock, outlaw-country and a narrative folk feel. There is sure to be something for everyone on this record.
The boys have had the opportunities to share the stage with an extensive pedigree of performers such as: Jerry Jeff Walker, Casey Donahew, Cory Morrow, Doug Moreland, No Justice, Stoney LaRue, Mickey and the Motorcars, Chris Knight, Josh Grider, Brandon Rhyder, Emmory Quinn, Texas Renegade, Band of Heathens, Honeybrowne and many more. Grady also has made acoustical performances opening up for Robert Earl Keen at Whiskey River in Beaumont and Brewster Street in Corpus Christi as well as with The Eli Young Band at The Texas Hall of Fame and Hurricane Harry’s.
As the band approaches its 2 year anniversary this year, they know there are many more miles in front of them and obstacles to overcome but are going to take the good with the bad and try to appreciate road that they are on and thank the people that are helping them along the way.
“If its all the same to everyone out there I hope we are around for a long long time.”Grady Skelton.
