ВлияниеI have been influenced by many different guitarists since I started playing, trying to take something useful and constructive from them all. I am learning all the time and accumulating more knowledge that I can pass on to my students for years to come.

GRAEME HAY GUITAR TEACHER / TUTOR IN STIRLING AND CUMBERNAULD!

Hello everyone, my name is Graeme Hay, I am 26 and I teach guitar privately in Stirling and Cumbernauld. I have a BA in Music Performance and a Professional Development Award in Guitar Tuition, which I studied for after 6 years at High School where I was awarded with a Grade 1 in Standard Grade Music and a Grade A in both Higher and Advanced Higher. I also teach bass guitar but only at beginner/intermediate level.

I am part of Rockoco Music Establishment where we teach vocals, guitar and bass. We also perform stripped down acoustic versions of a variety of well known songs, old and new, and our own original material. See www.myspace.com/rockocomusic for further details.

Keep reading this bio if you are looking for a detailed insight into what I do or skip to the bottom for the Frequently Asked Questions section which covers all of the main points. My Contact Details are below the FAQ section.

Since graduating in 2006 I have built up a solid base of private students and gained invaluable teaching experience in Primary Schools and Perth College UHI Millennium Institute, where I worked as a Guitar lecturer for 1 academic year (2007/8).

The styles of music I cover are basically anything that can be classed as "popular" in todays industry (rock, pop, indie, metal and everything in between) as well as classic guitar genres like blues and funk. I can cater for most standards of players, including beginners, and can help people to pass practical or music theory exams while keeping the learning process both rewarding and fun.

I ensure that all students are taught a solid all round knowledge of the guitar including chords, scales, improvisation, right hand techniques, notation/guitar TAB reading and basic music theory.

Once I am satisfied enough of the groundwork has been done, the lessons are individually designed to suit each students' particular needs and wishes. I am always happy to listen to any suggestions my students have, although ultimately I am in charge.

If a student is working towards an external Associated Board, Rockschool or other type of guitar exam, I can help accelerate their progress and boost their chances of passing with ease.

As I mentioned above, I studied music right the way through High School before moving on to do my BA in Music Performance and my Guitar Tuition Qualification. Throughout that period I noticed, and was frustrated by, a distinct lack of cohesion between the school syllabus and further/higher education. I can help anyone looking follow a similar route to prepare for College/University auditions, allowing them to advance quicker into their education after High School and to be generally better equipped to deal with the transition.

Apart from the educational side of things I can cater for people who just want to learn to play their favourite songs. I help my students understand the scales and chord progression used in each song they learn to help them develop their own song-writing potential and musical identity through improvisation.

I have created the vast majority of the materials used in the lessons myself and CD packages that accompany the materials are available to purchase. Featuring a full backing band (drums, bass, keyboard and sometimes extra guitars) they help students develop a better stylistic approach, and improve timing and musicality. More details and price lists can be given in due course.

Lesson charges, group lesson details and charges, block booking discount details and an overview of my terms & conditions can be found above in my blog section above.

FAQ's

Q. I can play lots of cool stuff that I have learned from TAB but I don't understand what I am playing in relation to music theory, can you help me?

A. Yes. Music theory is not as scary as some people seem to think! An understanding of basic things like scales and how to build chords will develop your guitar playing potential by 1000%!

Q. I am looking for lessons for my son/daughter. They are studying music in school and need some extra guidance to help them through their exams, can you help?

A. Yes. I can work with my students through the "Rockschool" book range, which is widely used in schools from 1st to 6th year. I will cover the books more thoroughly than school teachers are able to during class time due to the numbers of pupils they have in a relatively small period of time. My students have had excellent results in their exams after coming to me for extra curricular study.

Q. I am in a band and I want to be able to play guitar solos like my guitar idols but I don't know how. What can you do to help me?

A. In this situation I will dissect the stuff that your idols play and teach you the related scales, techniques and music theory. From there we will work on "soundalike" solos to help you put all of the newly learned stuff into practice and, with the right ammount of practice from you, you will be able to solo like your heroes in no time!

Q. I have never played before, can you show me the basics and how to play my favourite songs?

A. Yes. I can accomodate for people who want to learn purely for recreational purposes. If learning your favourite songs is all you want from the lessons, that is all we will do!

Q. I am an expert at Guitar Hero, will this help me to play a real guitar?

A. No. But the fact that you have stuck at the game for a considerable length of time means that you must like the songs you are "playing along" to. A love for guitar music means you would be enthusiastic about playing so I would suggest you put the plastic toy back in the box and get yourself a real guitar! Then give me a call! :-)
