Confessions of a Radical Ecologist outsider artist !!! Perhaps because my work embraces all media it has never been easy for curators or programmers to fit into their limited agendas. And because of its heavy make up and transgender content it was easier for them to dismiss it as not "serious" in the years before transgender became popular . Nevertheless over the years and almost without funding or recognition from "official" bodies I ( in the guise of JACKIE DERRIDA , JACKIE TV, Le COMPTESSA and EL TORNADO amongst others) have created art in the form of music, video, live performance and text based works appearing in places as diverse as The ICA ( London) with my videos and performance (Peepshow) , The National Centre for Popular Music ( Sheffield, now sadly defunct ) with my music (Arch) , The Edinburgh International Book Festival (All of My Deaths) and the Talk of London as an Erotic Awards Finalist and the first transgender strip artist. Now based in Spain with gran Tour I mix ecology, music and art and have decided to do my own promotion !!!! MY GREATEST HITS DVD IS AVAILABLE NOW!!!!

Inspired by the ideals of the collectors who formed cabinets of curiosities and whose ideas influenced the Encyclopedists, completing this collection (which of course includes its conservation) is the project of my philosophy of Radical Ecology: WASTE NOTHING! RECYCLE/RE-PRODUCE EVERYTHING! END CAPITALISM!!!!
I approach this from a bisexual transgender point of view since only in that way can it be truly all encompassing. My work embodies the pioneering philosophy of the Enlightenment and its "Renaissance wo/men" who combined knowledge from a wide variety of disciplines in their work.
It is a mixture of my awestruck WONDER at the time based art of the natural world and an appreciation of the incredible primitivism of our frozen human aesthetics. I have begun to call my work as a whole "THE RECYCLOPEDIA" because whether the format used is video, song, performance or illustration, it always has a strong textual basis. Language is indeed Art.
My texts flow off the page like the make up often flows off the contours of my face. I cannot help it, I defy the specialists who say that an artist must focus on one field to be taken seriously. This is the mentality of the marketplace. True, my way will never be commercial, will never fit in easily - how can you market something so nebuluos? - but I cannot help myself: I am a baroque anachronism!!!!

ALTERED BOOKS: I began publishing my short stories in the traditional anthology format in collections like: From the Backroom (1993), New Writing Scotland 10 (1992) and Latitudes (2006 ). I also published fanzines of my own and others work: Stomach, Scribbles on a Toilet Wall (1994) Girlie Mag (1996), Fu Manchu (1999). In recent years I have placed my texts inside already published works - taking them to pieces and putting them back together to form the unique volumes of my "Recyclopedia". Using postcards, publicity for museums, textbooks and old encyclopedias I am compiling a series of works which will encapsulate all branches of knowledge organised in an aesthetic, non systematic way. So far volumes altered include: "Mythology"; "Religion and Ecology"; "The Economy of Art". Pictured below are images from "Volume 2".

PAINTINGS WITH LIGHT: I have used video projections in my performances for years and this led me to make a variety of films from documentations of these and other performances to more experimental purely filimic works.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VIDEO WORKS: Including: "us-in-the-future" shown on Border TV (Scotland, 1998), the Transgender Film Festival (London 1999) and the Lesbian and Gay Film Festival (Paris, 2000); "Peepshow" (Institute of Contemporary Arts, London 2000) and the multi-media project "Choose Your God/ess" presented in different formats from musical stage shows to film screenings, university lectures and interactive live presentations all over Europe.
Here is an edited version of a video from my greatest hits DVD with some of my crazier performance moments.

MUSIC: The lyric form is a great way to express ideas. My stage performances always have a musical angle. So I have done musical cabaret, electro folk, lo-fi, glam, swing and my own brand of flamenco fusion which I call FLUNK (flamenco punk).
