Graham Cairns: singer, acoustic / 12 string & electric guitar, banjo, and mandolin / octave mandola
Influences
Look anyone whose seen Deilverance wants to play the banjo.....
And anyone whose seen the Blues Brothers wants to play the harp, and do back somersaults.....
So I'm not unique or different...
But these people take words and create pictures & dreams......
The boys are ....Otis Redding, The Proclaimers, Dick Gaughan, Christy Moore, Ryan Adams, The Kinks, Travis, Neil Young, Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Tom Petty, Dougie MacLean, Crowded House, Johnny Cash, Van Morrison, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Waterboys, The Saw Doctors
The girls are Karine Polwart, Kate Rusby, Ella Fitzgerald, Carly Simon, Aretha Franklin, Chrissie Hind, Sharlene Spiterri, Carole King, KT Tunstall
My list never gets shorter, each day I discover someone else my ear has an attraction to....
Sounds Like
Me really.... a cross section of all my influences
Whatever you say, I'm listening...
Whatever you hear, it's worth listening to...
Your words become entrapped in my head and sometimes they resurface later embedded in a song...
To those who know me thank you for your gifts..
Out Of The Bedroom said: Starting in a kind of 'meet-the-Proclaimers' mode Graham gives us “Just One More Drink”, an honest and ultimately sad song, “one more drink and I’ll think you love me” he sings with a heavy amount of added pathos. “Lady Road” tracks the life of a vagrant and the good advice she is able to give but unable to follow herself. Graham ends a popular set (he has fans!) with “The Fool”, described as “boy who loves girl who loves boy who loves other girl....and so on”. Confused and unrequited love is the perfect topic for any songwriter to get his teeth into and Graham does so with vigour.
Once again I have a favour to ask of everyone out there in the MySpace world, and I’m sorry because I know these things can get a bit annoying, but every vote counts, and I am happy to return the favour if you need me to vote or rate anything of yours, so… if you get the chance could you please rate my new song “Million Miles Away” on Triple J Unearthed?
Few more details for Wednesdays ‘Search for a feature artist’
Its a first come first served basis, I'll start taking names and divvying slots from around 8.30.
You’ll get 15 mins to do what you like with. There’s one house guitar plus 3 mics and a stupidly elaborate mixer. But if you have other guitars, i'd ask you to bring a lead.
I've also got a journo mate who is going to do reviews, which will be heavily posted on myspace and any music forums I can muster.
The chosen act will get an hours slot the following week promoted as the ‘feature artist’. The winners going to be judged a lot on crowd response so get your support along too.
I’ve had a quite a few confirmed acts so if you’re keen get down early. Bar 38 - George Street
