About me: Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, Graham Nunn (mis)spent his childhood growing up in Mt. Gravatt East, gathering the words for a lifetime of poems.
He was the organiser of the New and Selected Readings in 2001 and co-founded legendary Brisbane spoken word event SpeedPoets (www.speedpoets.org) in 2002. In 2003, his first collection of haiku, ‘A Zen Firecracker’ was published. This publication was well received by the critics and as a result Nunn was invited to run a series of workshops on the art of haiku at the inaugural Bali Readers and Writers Festival in Ubud (2004) and The Byron Bay Writers Festival (2005).
In 2004, he was invited to be the Artistic Director of The Queensland Poetry Festival (www.queenslandpoetryfestival.com). In the same year he released his first full-length collection of poetry ‘Share the Tragedy’. 2005 saw the release of two new collections, an experimental chapbook co-written with Mandy Beaumont ‘To the one who comes at dawn …’ and ‘Measuring the Depth’ a collection of haibun and haiku.
2007 was also a busy year, co-founding Queensland's newest independent publishing house of poetry, spoken word and lyrics - Small Change Press and releasing his latest collection of poetry, Ruined Man.
Nunn’s poetry is taut and concise. His work has been described as assured, achieved and ambitious.
Who I'd like to meet: Poets and people who dig poetry, publishers, artists of any description

"...it’s like Kid Strange and Urban Blitz from the Doctors of Madness at
their most morose played Overhang Party, or a mogadon’d Peter Hammill
jamming with Van Der Graaf’s Graham Smith. Elsewhere, the singular
desolation is most reminiscent of the most down down moments of Nico’s
THE MARBLE INDEX or even of Jesse Colin Young’s The Youngbloods at
their most mercurial. But the Scrapes are still so original their music
ultimately don’t sound like nobody but themselves." Julian Cope
hi brother man bag from handbag popping in to say hi and….
thanks to everyone who came to the handbag launch at cafe checoco; it's a small space but everyone got comfy and gave us their full attention. we sold all of our run of 20 cd-rs. it was one of those rare magical nights. it won't get any better than that. should we quit now?
anna (aka fanny pack sees as as a boutique band so in line with this philosophy we will make those 20 cd-rs we sold the only ones available - what do ya reckon?).
being a boutique band, everything we do is an event and a one-off. so for our next gig, we are introducing ian powne (powney from stress of leisure fame) in a one-off appearance on electric guitar. he will stand in for j-ho who can't do this gig.
it's in the premiers bar at the casino which is actually a good place to see music and drinks are normal prices.
handbag thursday august 6 8pm premiers bar, casino free entry
this Friday (July 10) we're playing a gig in west end at a little place called cafe checoco on hardgrave rd near where tongue and groove used to be. we've got 20 copies of our new cd to sell. it's called handbag which is also the name of our band.
you don't have to pay to get in. the music starts at 8, we're on 9 and last act is on at 10. tom and anna and j-ho will be there before 8 if you wanna join in the early stages of the party. it's a very small place so if we get 10 or 15 people coming along it will be a bit crowded and the people in the audience may be outnumbered by the musicians. well, we'll be able to say we've played to a packed audience. other acts are davey spicer and hawk & t-bone.
Come get introduced to some of the Best Poets on MySpace. 10K Poets Features Poets everyday. This weekend is full of some of the best poetry available for your consumption.

w/ Vaginabillies The Old Order The Omars Handbag & Compere Alex Oliver (4ZZZ Friday Drivetime)
After the huge success of ROCK AGAINST CHICKS last year, Brother Man Dude has decided to put together the next ‘ROCK AGAINST…’ event while the momentum is on his side. Since the ‘ROCK AGAINST…’ series is really starting to get a name for itself, he has decided it’s time to really make a statement.
ROCK AGAINST CHICKS attracted a lot of attention because of its sensational and provocative undertones. Was it misogynistic? Was it sexually exploitative? It certainly attracted a crowd.
For this next event, Brother Man Dude is happy to ride that wave of publicity. But Rock Against Humour is different in a very significant way: It does not resort to cheap laughs and attention seeking tactics. This is the real thing. No joke.
ROCK AGAINST HUMOUR brings together bands and performers that put passion before professionalism. This does not mean they don’t mean business. Certainly they know how to have a laugh. After all when you’re dealing with weighty subject matter, man, you gotta break the tension somehow.
The evening will be compered by 4ZZZ personality Alex Oliver of Friday Night Drive fame. He will keep the audience on their toes and on task. It’s High Art; it’s challenging but it can be rewarding. So pay attention.
This is not just a night for drinking, partying and escapism.
Remember, it’s not a joke. Get serious.
Choose a position. Make a stand. Rock Against Humour.
