GRAM BECOMES 'WEBGRAM':
PRODUCTION OF SECOND ALBUM 24/7 LIVE VIA WEBCAM
GRAM is about to let everybody in on the process of making her next album, by putting the process online: broadcasting day & night via webcam, accompanied by Twitter, YouTube, and blogs. She will also be doing weekly acoustic webcam performances on her site www.gramgramgram.com.
From Wednesday September 10th on, GRAM a.k.a. Marg van Eenbergen will let music lovers in on the making of an album as no one has before. Recently, bands have shared exclusive footage of their recording process with their fans before the release of a new album via internet. But GRAM wants to take this one step further, by showing the entire process of inspiration and production, while it's happening.
Marg says: "The major part of working on an album is done behind closed doors; in my case in my home studio. You can come to a gig or buy a CD, but the making of the record is by far more exciting to watch if you want to experience the music from the inside out. I want to show people how a song is born, how it grows and develops. The next couple of months will be particularly interesting, because I'll be writing new songs and recording demos. The working title for the new GRAM album is 'From A To B And Back Again', to stress the interaction between me, the 'A'rtist, and you, the 'B'eholders."
Several free internet services can be used to make this concept fly. On the home page of the website www.gramgramgram.com, you can watch a 24/7 broadcast from GRAM's home studio via Ustream.tv. Twitter (micro blogging through text messages) will be used as a sort of TV guide, to announce when to expect some action on the studio webcam. Every weekend a new YouTube video will be uploaded, featuring a recap of the past week's events, and every Friday at 4 PM (CET!), GRAM will perform 4 songs acoustically for the camera. All of this will be accompanied by new blog entries on the inspiration for the songs, with pictures. And there are even more applications being developed as you read this.
Marg van Eenbergen was singer, songwriter, and guitarist of Seedling, an Amsterdam-based indiepop band that won both critical and public acclaim for its performances and releases, playing every venue in Holland and most in the UK, and did four sessions with the late, great John Peel. She also played with electro-genius About for two years, in between production sessions on her first solo album. As a duo onstage, they thrilled audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, armed only with vocals, laptop, and guitar. These days, GRAM is a one-woman band, mixing and looping vocals and guitar live, by laptop and sheer will.
In January 2008, GRAM (= Marg) released her debut album, Four-letter Word, with Torntable Records/PIAS. It features guest appearances by Maarten Kooijman (Johan), Stoffel Verlackt (El Tattoo del Tigre, Sukilove), a cello player from the Rotterdam Philharmonic who she met on the street, and many others. It's an inventive hybrid of rock guitar and chanson, with an electronic touch. The new album promises the same inventiveness, turned in a new direction. Watch it as it happens.
gisteravond in Bitterzoet smaakte goed!
Anyway ... hope 2 C U again soon AND the catfight of course.
A present for you dear friend! Written by Gerhardt
------------------------------ Spring of Change
One thousand yellow daffodils A snowdrop by the lake Swallows swirl a forbidden dance Children play their game
Nature reinvents itself The sun sheds a skin A buzzing sound of change Fills up the air at night
Spring of change Spring of Love First learn how to swim Before you learn to fly Spring of change Spring of Love Life becomes so much lighter If you accept it has to die
The sweet ambrosia scent Of new Life is on our skin Soft melodies fall down slowly from the sky into the heart
A fox feeds her rascals As the nightingale awakes Someone shakes out a blanket To lie down on and make Love
Spring of change Spring of Love First learn how to swim Before you learn to fly Spring of change Spring of Love Life becomes so much lighter If you accept it has to die
