"The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold....
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sunburned hands, I used to hold
Since you went away, the days grow long
And soon I'll hear ol' winter's song.
But I miss you most of all my darling,
When autumn leaves start to fall."
- Johnny Mercer, lyrics, Autumn Leaves
I love November; it’s the quiet time before the holiday craziness and after the summer’s fun. I’ve finished raking the leaves and the gardens have been put to bed. There’s soup on the stove and you can smell the wood smoke in the air……
But still exciting things are happening!
Buffett does DADDY and more – It’s official, track 1 on Jimmy Buffett’s new album “Buffett Hotel” (available 12/8/09) is “Nobody From Nowhere”, a song written by DADDY’s Will Kimbrough & Tommy Womack, which is also the lead track from their new CD “For A Second Time” released this summer. The second track on Jimmy Buffett’s new album? “Wings” cowritten by Will and Mr. Buffett last summer. Will recorded his own version of the song for his forthcoming studio album, also called “Wings” (available 2/27/09)! Can it get any better?
Yes it can!
Jimmy Buffett will be doing the late night talk show circuit in support of his new release and he’s asked Will Kimbrough to accompany him for the Dec. 8th and Dec. 9th performances. More details coming soon.
Cindy Bullens is back in the studio recording a new solo CD! It’s been a while and Cindy tells me you’ll hear a bit of Americana mixed with her usual hard rockin sound!
Out in the spring, Cindy will be out touring in support (hint, hint )
Darden Smith has just released a wonder retrospective of his 25 years in the biz called “After All This Time”. 14 previously released songs dating back to his first album (yes it was on vinyl) and two new songs, “Sierra Diablo” (from Darden’s next release Marathon) and “Dyin’ to be Born Again” (from the Harlem Parlour Music Club). Yes, like fine wine, Darden just keeps getting better and better (he’ll hate me for using that old line)
The buzz about Lee Harvey Osmond continues to build. With “A Quiet Evil” being added to radio playlists all over the country, acid folk is slowly taking over the US. After hugely successful opening performances for the Cowboy Junkies this fall, we are now booking LHO shows all over the US and in Canada. Shake things up this fall and winter and bring LHO to your town

That would be 'out on the towns' as I have been in Austin twice since February. Going to see the Stonehotties tonight at 3rd and Lindsley, a good Nashville gig for them if they can keep it repeating and somehow work to Sunday nights when they broadcast.
Missed Dan Navarro and Joel Rafael at the Bluebird on Thursday night due to family obligations (that dratted day job I have).
Navarro's presence in Nashville got me wondering if the Stonehoney operation is applying for a showcase at the Americana conference--deadline looming. Since I am not in the business, it's purely foolish musing on my part to want to see them blow the AMA away like they did FA!
