Grand Alchemist returns from a neurotic lethargy and finally presents their new album "Disgusting Hedonism". The band picks up the themes from the debut album "Intervening Coma – Celebration". This is powerful, atmospheric and symphonic metal, but this time around the contrasts are sharper, the guitar wall is taller and more room has been made for aggression. "Disgusting Hedonism" is, just like the debut album, recorded in collaboration with Rune Thoen in Holmestrand. Grand Alchemist is based in an area around Holmestrand, Norway, a dark and forgotten corner of the Oslo fiord. This is music from the borderlands between the real and the unreal, a landscape where fog rises from the marsh and the listener will have to find his bearings himself. -It's about the atmosphere. What kind of atmosphere it is, people must find out for themselves, says Sigurd, the main creative force in the band. He writes most of the music and lyrics. Sigurd started the band with drummer Stoelan in 1995, under the name of Morrheim. In 1998 Morrheim had progressed enough to be pronounced Grand Alchemist, and in 2001 Terje (guitar) and Roland (bass) joined. In 2002 "Intervening Coma-Celebration" was released and received excellent reviews world-wide. The band geared up with a session-synth and transmitted the recorded atmospheres on to the stage. Stoelan left the band early 2006 and was replaced with John. After the studio-sessions Terje announced that he would not be able to do more live-shows with the band and Robin joined as his replacement. In 2011 founding member Stoelan re-joined Grand Alchemist on bass. Anno 2012 Grand Alchemist is comprised by Sigurd (guitar and vox), John (drums), Stoelan (bass), Robin (lead-guitar) and Anders (keys). The journey is to be continued.
